Wegovy and nausea
First Wegovy shot yesterday (introductory dose). Mild (but still bothersome nausea today). Ate half my usual breakfast this morning (that part is probably good). Looking for tips on managing nausea/stomach ache because I'm already concerned I won't be able to stick with it. I told people before I started that I was concerned about being nauseous for the rest of my life. Is the nausea why we eat less, or is it another effect of the chemical on our brain that helps us eat less?

Go to their web site. Very helpful information there. They offer some cost savings for those with insurance and thos without but not federal ones like Medicare Part D and other federal programs.
My Mayo PCP was really up on Expound. He said had two receptor for appetite reduction where Wegovy only had one.
He also mentioned not so many side affects but I read on MCC posters having side affects to it.
WOW that is great you lost 45 lbs. You should be very proud of yourself!
Sorry about your problems. I had gastric bypass surgery 20 years ago. Even to this day, if I eat things I shouldn’t, I will dump. If I don’t chew my food completely, I’ll dump. Sugary foods will make me dump. Like I said, 20 years later. Sooner or later you need to realize that it’s what we put into our mouths we are responsible for. The doctors were certain that I understood the complications if I didn’t change my eating habits. Once you dump a couple of times, you know how to avoid it. I have kept off 100 pounds since then. Good luck.
Majourna is for pre diabetic and weight loss.Which my A1C is great now.Got 20 lbs to lose then i guess Dr. and insurance will cut me off.
Your message is so inspirational thank you so much. I just had surgery two months ago. I do agree I can’t go back to my poor eating habits and inactive lifestyle if I want the weight to stay off. Thank you.
@jc76 - confirming you mean tirzepatide (Zepbound)?
@lisalucier
In my old age my remembering spelling is not part of mine better side.
WEGOVY offers programs to offset cost of their products except for federal insurance.
Yes I meant ZEPBOUND. My Mayo PCP wanted me to start on it to replace WEGOVY which did nothing on all the lower doses and then severe reactin on the highest does 2.4.
PCP stated Zepbound had to receptors to reduce appetite where Wegovy only had one.
I take a medication called Xhance and sometimes I find myself putting the X on Zepbound by mistake. Again, old man, terrible remembering and hoped spell check programs would help us old guys.
Not to worry at all, @jc76. Just wanted to be sure other members here understood what you meant.
I recall you said if you changed to tirzepatide (Zepbound) you'd have to wait a bit first. What are your thoughts right now about changing to tirzepatide (Zepbound), jc76?
@lisalucier
I am not against trying Zepbound in the future.
I work very closely with my Mayo Jacksonville PCP who I trust very much. He recommended I wait for about 3 months after my reaction to Wegovy's 2.4 dose to consider Zepbound. I meet with him every 3 months not only for my weight but I am recovering from prostate cancer where he does a PSA test every 3 months and we go over those results.
When he explained why Zepbound may work better for me it was because it has 2 receptors versus only one for Wegovy that affect the brain appetite. I got only a slight reduction in appetite at dinner, and that was only from lunch meal digestion slow down.
On Wegovey I had not reduction of appetite for breakfast, lunch, just dinner. And that was very small. I told my PCP I would have to eat more for breakfast to get the same feeling at lunch that I get at dinner which is just adding more food.
Per my PCP he said I would have to start at the low dose of Zepbound like I did with Wegovy. I really don't know what happened to my body. I used to be able to lose weight quickly by reducing calories.
I exercise 6 days a week and on most days 2 hours. I do water aerobics 8 times a week (on 3 days do back-to-back classes. Then I swim at least one day for a mile and ride my bike at least one day for 20 miles. I don't eat any more at meals than I did 20 years ago probably less. My downfall is snacks and is not sweets. I love mixed nuts, but a quarter of a cup (which is a ridiculously small number of nuts) is 185 calories.
I feel like my situation is weird. I started out by taking one .25 shot in the doctor's office. Then my doctor gave me a .5 prescription for three or four months.
So I started about 2 1/2 months ago and was absolutely rocking it out, just amazing, on .5. Zero side effects, and the most wonderful results was the no sweet tooth, that things tasted differently and I didn't even realize that I had food noise but all of that food noise was blessedly silent. I did not spend all day thinking about food.
I was watching my macros and of course constipation is always an issue but things were amazing and I got greedy. So I talked to my doctor into sending me a 1 mg script after one month.
Here's where it gets weird. I was on this 1mg with just slight stomach upset and nausea every once in a while for 3 weeks. But after the third week, I have since had two weeks of horrible side effects. First, neuropathy issues. I found out through research on Reddit that your skin hurts. It's weird but it's like if you take prednisone at a high dose and then don't taper off, your skin will hurt to the touch. It's highly sensitive and sometimes burns. So only very specific spots on my sides and back would burn or hurt whenever my clothes would rub against my skin or I would sit back or next to something. It was so crazy but definitely something I could've tolerated.
But at the same time, overwhelming nausea and fatigue hit me. I thought I had a bug and then maybe Covid and I have been so sick, probably a scale of seven for the nausea, most every day for two weeks and it has drastically affected my life. I barely worked last week. I just don't understand why it took that long but then I imagine that maybe I got gastritis from it. It is horrible nausea but a bite of anything or even taking my morning medication meant extreme indigestion, constant burping and overwhelmingly violent hiccups over and over every day. I dreaded taking my meds in the morning or my supplements and sometimes I wouldn't even be able to eat and sometimes I could and that would help the nausea a little but that's if I could even get it down.
I did lose over 10 pounds in that two months but most of that was the first month on .5 because even worse than all these ridiculous side effects, is I've only lost 3 pounds all month. So I requested that my doctor move me back down to .5 again and I'm praying that the side effects go away or lessen. Especially considering I have had to pay $1000 for both medications when I only dosed once from the 1 mg box. So I've paid 1000 bucks for two prescriptions in the last two weeks. Wish me luck!
Just the food noise being absent is life-changing for me..

I was on Wegovy with each level of dosage for a month. I started at the .25 and nothing. No side affects no lessoning of appetite. Then to .50 same thing. Then to .75 some reduction of appetitite at dinner. Then to 1.5 and just the same appetite still no side affects.
Then went to 2.4. After two hours after taking got nausea, headache and went to bed (took at 9 p.m.). Woke up sick at 7 a.m. and vomited. Really nauseated. Called primary care doctor and got appt. that afternoon. Vomited again at noon appt. in afternoon. Really bad headach.
Went to appt. and was told could not be put on nausea medication because of some of my other medications. Was told the treatment would be waiting for body to move the the medication out of body and could take up to 5-6 weeks.
Went home and vomited again at 5 p.m. Really nauseated and terrible headache. Was told to try to each soup and nothing solid. What I found I could do was eat mashed potatoes and drink a milkshake type protein drink. I did that or about two weeks still struggling with the nausea and headaches.
I too had burping that was constant and lasted for 2 months after stopped the 2.4. I still think I burp more than I did before the 2.4. Slowly I was able to move to soft foods but that nausea feeling remained for many weeks.
My PCP stated I had gastroperisa caused by the Wegovy. It is where your stomach does not move the food along. Thus nausea, burping and would take many weeks to get better.
Sadly I did not lose weight on any of the lower doses at all. I cannot address the 2.4 as only took it once (not the 4 shots for 1 month treatment). I was told my PCP that I was one of those that had little affect from lower doses and very severe reaction to the higher dose.
I was told Zepbound could be considered as had two receptor to reduce appetite versus Wegovy only having one and research had shown many expereinced less side affects. Bottom line though PCP would not even consider until 3 months had passed since stopped Wegovy.
I am at the 3 month mark now but I don't want this to happen again and would have to start all over again at low dose for a month and move up each month. So trying on my own to lose the weight.
I don't every want to expereience the side affects I did for something that is elective.
