What should i do? My vision is deteriorating

Posted by ariza9110 @ariza9110, Sep 16, 2024

Hey so I started having blurry vision where my vision would unfocus and become blurry 1 year ago since I started wellbutrin, 6 months ago at least I went off it and my vision improved but not fully resolved, 3 months ago I caught flu/covid and since then my vision problems became severe, my vision unfocus every 1 second to the point I feel half blind, I went to a eye doctor which didn't do a eye test with dialate drops since I already had one 7 months ago but did the basics without dialation and sent me to do oct test which I am doing tommorow, I am really scared that I am going blind and dont know what going on.

This is a bit off topic, but what kind of cataract surgery problem do you have currently?

I have positive dysphotopsia, which means I have constant flickering in the outside corner of my eye. It's extremely annoying. It's far worse in bright light, like florescent light. Grocery stores, Target, etc are hard. I have read that it can be your brain trying to adjust to the new lens. I have also read that a square edge lens is worse than a round edge lens because the light hits the lens on the square edge. I have a square edge. I also researched the lens they gave me after this happened and found out that this lens isn't ideal for someone who had LASIK, which I did. It really ticks me off that my doctor didn't pay attention to that. He also didn't warn me that this was a possible complication. Luckily, I only did one eye. I'm hoping I can find some help. Everyone says cataract surgery is fabulous. It's not.

You need to get to a neuro ophthalmologist ASAP. This could be NAION or the headache suggests GCA as someone else also mentioned. That needs to be addressed quickly or ruled out.

You’ve probably read the entries in “Positive Dysphotopsia after Cataract Surgery” where I and others put our experiences. Good that you can do some research before having surgery on the 2nd eye. Good luck!

I agree. I was not so lucky either. I have been miserable since getting cataracts removed. I developed the cataracts after an unnecessary LPI done to me. I was told getting the cataract surgery would help, but it made the glares, halos, and watering even worse. Then they said I had scar tissue. They used a laser on one eye and it did nothing to help.

I wish I had never ever went to an eye dr. All I had was dry eye before. My vision was better than 20/20. Now my eyes are ruined.

I'm so sorry. These doctors really need to talk about the problems that can occur rather than just promoting how great cataract surgery is. I repeatedly told my doctor how worried I was about complications and all he did was tell me that I may still need to wear glasses. I also waited months to see him because I wanted the best doctor.

I did the same. Waited a year to see a dr that was suppose to be the best. He just brushed off everything I said and proceeded to tell me I was wrong that my vision was affected by the unnecessary LPI. Then he said everyone gets cataracts no matter what. My mom is 84 and never had a problem with cataracts. He spent less than 5 minutes with me, so I can relate to the waiting. Most Drs only care about the money.

I so disagree with your statement that doctors only care about the money ... even saying "most" is offensive to those who have spent 12-16 years AFTER college training, studying, practicing, staying up for days at a time.

Re cataracts, here's a snippet from AI:
"Specific Age Groups:
40-49 years: 2.51%
65-74 years: 25%
75-84 years: 50%
85+ years: 90% "

If I could edit my comment to make you feel better I would change it to EVERY dr I personally have seen has injured me, lied to me, did unnecessary surgeries, caused me many more issues, pushed drugs with bad long term effects, and brushed me off. If you knew me and my history with drs you might understand. The only reason I even said “most” is that I have heard of good drs and know a few that had good experiences. However, I personally know MANY more that have had terrible experiences and say the same as I do.

I currently have a GP dr now just to write a script for my thyroid hormone because my thyroid was also taken out unnecessarily. I hope you have studied up on what horrible problems removing that gland can do later on. I warn people all the time to not get that gland removed. Horrible problems ever since it was done. I regret letting that dr do it every single day.

The GP dr I have now told me that drs are not educated enough when I questioned him why I could not get help. He has actually admitted that I knew more about some things than he did. I am not lying about that either. I have been studying for 50 years. I am not a dr, but MD does not mean “Most Devine”. Drs also do lie for money.

I have been permanently damaged by every surgery I have ever had.

Am I just unlucky or did I have bad drs? One dr operated on me twice for a hernia I NEVER even had. Talk about a nightmare. The internal damage he did to me cost me 60k out of pocket and caused me permanent problems that I deal with 24/7/365. I almost died.

I was beyond upset and lawyers would not take the case even though I had proof. Why? Because they said a dr would not lie. Are you serious? So the other drs that said I did not have a hernia were lying?

Then another dr destroyed my vision by insisting I would go permanently blind if I did not have an LPI because I had a slight angle closure AFTER they dilated my eyes. Are you aware that dilating eyes CAUSES angle closure to happen??? I didn’t at the time. That was just stupidity. They are suppose to check for angle closure PRIOR to dilating. I really doubt that suddenly at age 61, I developed angle closure when just 4 months prior when I had previous eye exam I had just for dry eye I had no angle closure. Eyes were clear and no cataracts.Smh.

My vision was 20/15 at 61 years old just 4 months prior. Dr promised it would not affect my vision. I asked that question no less than 5 times. Immediately after he put holes in both eyes I was blinded by a white glare that never went away. My vision was destroyed and cataracts formed very fast. Heard them telling next patient same exact thing. That is Greed.

Now my 84 year old mother can see better than I can. She has no cataract issues. She can see better with no glasses now than I can see with glasses even after getting cataracts removed. Now the glare is worse after cataracts removed. I am miserable. Shine a flashlight in both your eyes for 4 years straight and come back and tell me how you feel. Did you read the news story about the 24 year old who commuted suicide after laser surgery? Drove him nuts. The eyes affect the brain. I know this from experience. I am now off balance and am nervous to drive. I was not like that at all prior to that LPI.

Also I was never diagnosed with the real problems I had because every dr I seen said I LOOKED just fine. I was 60 years old before one dr finally diagnosed me with EDS. Which every single dr I had seen NEVER mentioned or admitted that I had it even when I questioned that I thought I had it due to my own research. I have had health issues all my life and have been studying medical books and research studies stuff for 50 years. You would think at least ONE could have helped me or listened.

Hopefully all the years you said you studied will make you one of the good ones. I was never fortunate to find even one. Hence my use of MOST drs. I feel that was generous considering my own personal history. I was destroyed by drs. Every single day I wish I had never ever went to one or believed one that got near me with a knife or a laser.

I hope you are better than what I have seen. I am sticking to what I said because it is FACT in my case. No offense intended. My story are facts and those are just a few.

As far as AI. That is causing major issues as well. AI has no feelings, no brain. We are not robots. People are real.

I guess my husband and I have been pretty lucky with the doctors we’ve had.

I’ve occasionally stopped going to a doctor that I didn’t like, but for the most part, I haven’t been harmed and they haven’t seemed motivated by money above all else.

I also had laser surgery for acute angles. My doctor was fantastic. Very caring, very competent, and I’ve never had a problem with the holes he lasered into my eyes. Occasionally, I’ll see a starry glare, like with headlights, or streetlights, but it’s not too disruptive.

We’ve been going to the same GP almost our entire married life. He has become a personal friend. For years, he treated our family for “free”. My husband bartered computer help for our healthcare. Just recently, in casual conversation, he noticed a dark spot on my husband’s face and told him he needs to get it checked out. It turned out to be a skin cancer that the dermatologist didn’t even catch.

My husband has prostate cancer in his family, and has had trouble with that, although not cancer yet. But he went to a urologist for years trying to manage an enlarged prostate. That doctor did not steer him wrong. And when my husband went a long time without seeing him once, when he finally did go to an appt., the doc asked why it had been so long. My husband told him that we were having some legal and financial trouble and he couldn’t afford it. The doctor said, “don’t ever do that again. If you can’t pay, I won’t charge you.”

I have had a couple of bad experiences with doctors and, in general, I don’t just take what they say at face value. I do my own research and I don’t do everything the docs recommend. But I wouldn’t say they are all in it for only money.
