How do you get some answers?

Posted by sm80 @sm80, 3 days ago

I started having health issues in 2021 starting with fatigue then adding in GI issues, recurring SIBO/IMO, increased anxiety, brain fog and concentration issues, ringing in my ears, and increasing blood pressure. I had very mild COVID and only had the home tests nothing lab confirmed, and I did have several rounds of mRNA vaccine before I had COVID. I've been bouncing around between doctors and specialists and all tests have come back normal. I have asked about a possible COVID connection to what I have going on and it pretty much gets dismissed right away and the topic changes. I don't even know that long covid is what I'm dealing with but I have my suspicions. Any suggestions on how to try to get to the bottom of why I have all of these new issues and how to get on the path to feeling better?

Your tests will continue to show 'normal' as all of mine did until I found the right person. Figuratively speaking, after going through the entire medical community around Charleston, SC and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester I refused to give up and turned to 'Dr. Google' and 'Dr. YouTube'. Very grateful for all the attempted help along the way, but nobody could help me, even Mayo (unless they've change their approach). I selected Dr. Bruce Paterson and his team, took his targeted blood test and surprise, the test showed many elements (for me 14) out of bounds. Some slightly, and some 100x! I was never so happy to have been called abnormal :). If you know about something you can usually fix it. I am about 4 months into his process and feeling much better, returning to normal for the first time since November 2021.

That’s great news, richard’s, and thanks very much for clarifying and elaborating! Very thoughtful of you! 1. Is it Dr. Paterson or Patterson?
The Dr. Paterson (one t) I found on line is not in Houston. 2. If Patterson is as good as you say, why should I not just see him instead of Mayo where you were disappointed? 3. I could not understand your explanation about Mayo’s “approach.” Could you clarify?

Hi Diver, I’ll buy you a ginger ale any time - to thank you for sharing you valuable information about drinking only water! So glad you have no more pain! I’ve recently had mild bowel discomfort, thinking coffee and diet coke caused it, so I’m going to give them up now and drink only water, thanking you for having the courage to relegate yourself to drinking only boring boring boring water.

Drinking about 32 ounces of water a day does help with GI issues like constipation. Yes, water is boring 🙂 but I would rather have it then feel the pain. I do add an Emergen -C packet to a glass every morning to get at least some of my vitamins in. I also know that I felt so bad the first year or so and realized that I was walking around with a little dehydration which also made me feel terrible. I had kidney stones back in 1995 and that was a terrible experience. Water helps all the organs function better and when the RA doc did my blood work, she said that I probably had some stones (please let them just stay where they are!!) so I know that water helps with that as well as dehydration can cause kidney stones to form. Let me know how it goes. Drinking TOO much water can be bad, but we are talking like 2 liters a days. If exercising and sweating, that can be ok, but because I have this LC nightmare, I am no longer able to do that.

Although this paper is a couple of years old, it does discuss Dr. Patterson (about 1/2 way through). He WAS, at least, in California.
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9456722/
I'm really getting the impression that the various approaches and treatments largely amount to throwing a plate of spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
It's Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / "Yuppie Flu" circa 1990's--I went through that, too--redux, IMHO.

I guess it's challenging for doctors and researchers since the symptoms vary so wildly from patient to patient, but, geez...

@elliep

i would bet you have long covid based on these symptoms.
i have been where you are, going through every blood test, lots of CT and MRI scans and finding everything inside normal. looking for everything without accepting the obvious.
there is a lot of good information on this site. follow up on the links that relate to you. it will give you ammunition to deal with your health providers. continue to be insistent. thank them for their concern and all they doing for you.
last year my health provider set up a Long Covid group in my area. i was referred to it and it has been very helpful.
this process takes good luck and persistence.

check out HealthBio on line for diagnosis and treatment of LC. It’s run by Dr. Bruce Patterson who was head of virology at Stanford. They are very much on top of treatment of LC with a combination of maraviroc and lipitor.

I respectfully disagree, sandguy. I think Dr. Patterson has a bona fide, effective treatment in the combination of maraviroc and lipitor. Listen to his many interviews and lectures, and I think you’ll agree.
