Starting statins with concerns

Posted by hopenr @hopenr, 2 days ago

I have HoCM and for a number of years, my cholesterol has been going up and up. My cardiologist wants to put me on Lipitor but I looked it up and it is contraindicated with amiodurone and verapamil. Why would he even prescribe it? SIGH! My own research shows that Pravastatin would be more tolerated. Does anyone have any experience that they can share with me? Thank you!

I wish I had a GP at the Mayo. I do really like mine here in Boulder but I do my own research and more than once, have found serious contraindications.

I forget sometimes I am very lucky to be a Mayo patient.

This review of all my medications and supplements is not just from my PCP but all my specialist and doctors.

I was having issues with PTSD and my phsychiatric medication specialist wanted to put me on escitalopram but said it can affect electrical waves in heart and was going to review my medications and supplements with my other doctors before prescribing. Came back with my electrophysilogist saying in my case would not be contradictory.

But I can relate what you are saying as I mentioned in previous post about going to a walk in clinic on a weekend and getting prescription for COVID when it contradicted 2 other medications and worse they did not take my full medication and supplement information.

In your case have to do it yourself. Good luck!
