Repatha reaction?
I’ve been on Repatha for two doses. Out of nowhere started to feel a flutter in bottom of throat or neck. And then a dry cough. Thought it was acid reflux but my gastroenterologist said no and suggested I take magnesium twice a day as my rhythm is slightly off. Has anyone had this reaction to Repatha? I don’t know what to do next.

STOP TAKING REPATHA! It’s a horrible drug with many awful side effects and many people have ended up with lifelong problems . I took one injection 2 weeks ago and I’ve had the worst diarrhea ever since. It’s like there’s a faucet in my rectum that’s been turned on full force. I’m wearing depends now and I never had to do that but I often can’t make it to a bathroom on time! I can’t even do short trips for groceries without taking several Imodium AD’s. I’ve also developed a constant runny nose and my finger joints are swollen and painful. Read the patient reviews on websites other than the company’s site. Some of the people on Repatha develop symptoms immediately after 1st injection but many don’t develop the serious life changing symptoms until months or even a couple years !
That’s terrifying. I’m so sorry! Scary that it never leaves your system!!! Why is this on the market??? I’ve never had my heart rhythm off!
Have you heard of heart issues with Repatha? Why isn’t it pulled off the market? Especially if ruining lives!!!
I'm sorry you have this happening. I would caution, however, against falling for the post hoc fallacy. Just because something happened after you tried something new doesn't mean the unfortunate event or change in circumstances wasn't coming your way all along, and just happened to take place a few days or weeks after the novel experience. Cardiac arrhythmia is not included in the list of either mild or serious side effects here:
(N.B.- I do not take Repatha, and I'm not in any way affiliated with, or invest in, the corporation that has brought it to market, or with a seller/distributor of Repatha.)

I agree. I really want to take this med. My dr said I had a little irregular heartbeats before I started Repatha. So I’m going to try a light beta blocker and follow his advice.
How are you doing now? Please let me know. I just signed up for this so not sure how I will find your response. I was relieved to find this site and your reply because I couldn't figure out what the heck was causing this chronic diarrhea. The only thing new I had added to my supplement routine is the Repatha. My first injection was Thursday, February 27th. Have had three injections so far. Tomorrow would be my 4th, but I discontinued it because of the chronic diarrhea. I have it exactly as you described ... like a waterfall coming out of me. Today is the third week. Getting sleep at night is challenging, but thank God I can get some sleep between my trips to the bathroom; and thank God I can feel when I have to go. I, too, have to be well stocked on Depends right now. My husband has had to do most of the grocery shopping the last three weeks and most of our dog walking. And he works full time. Just had a colonoscopy done to check my colon ... more fasting and no food. Will find out results in a week.
How long will this last I wonder after discontinuing Repatha? The side effects of medications are unbelievable! I have a very sensitive system and if anyone is gonna get side effects, it's going to be me. I'm 67, 5'5" and weigh under 130 normally. Have taken high-quality supplements for years. My only medication is thyroid medication for hypothyroidism since age 25. Plaque in my left carotid artery is why I take Repatha. My only guess is stress put it there and the fact that my schedule changed and I couldn't work out so much anymore.
Am scheduled for an Endarterectomy but surgeon won't operate on me with this diarrhea condition. He recommended me to a Gastroenterologist who had me get a colonoscopy as well as a couple of blood tests and stool samples which came back negative for what he was looking for. One test has not come back yet. I've been trying to find out what is in Repatha (Evolacumab) but am not having success. Being on the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) diet for three weeks is not helathy. My Gastroenterologist said "eat anyway, you've got to get nutrition." So I incorporate protein drinks I make myself and add liquid vitamins, banana, etc ... I hope this Repatha has not caused permanent damage in my digestive system. If so, I may have to take legal action.
Again, please let me know how you're doing since it's been over three months since you wrote your experience on Repatha.
Yes you are correct this does happen. I had the same thing happen to me on the 2 does. I told my Dr. I am not willing to take anymore and have stopped. Headaches, flu, cold, runny nose sore throat, joint pain, fluttering in my next and chest, terrible jaw pain, then to top it off nervousness. Which Dr did not believe me but if you look up the "mm more side effects from the clinical studies you will see all these things we did not know about.
My latest lab test says my kidneys level has leveled from 54 to 35 , blood sugar 6.5 Borderline diabetes, terrible and uncontrollable itching. Diarrhea and stomach pains whatever I eat, urinating several times a night and decreased appetite. The only change of meds since a heart Attack in December 2023 has been Repartha.
Hi
I am about 14 injections in. I'm 56 and had a calcium score in the 400s. I tried every statin previously due to high cholesterol. Each one was horrible. Muscle aches, stiffness- I couldn't tolerate any of them.
The positive side of Repatha for me has been , one easy injection every other week. I have less muscle soreness but I still experience it , just to a lesser degree.
The downside for me has been the muscle soreness, even when I haven't exercised. Maybe part of my age, but I don't believe that. I urinate way more than ever. At times, my kidneys have been sore, back pain in the kidney area. My triglycerides have gone up. My diet is the same.
What I truly don't understand though, is I had a heart catheterization done in January. My cardiologist said from that cath, I have mild CAD, cardio artery disease, and NO need for a stent to be placed, but that I should start Repatha, which I did. I've googled CT score so many times. It's a good predictor, but not absolute regarding actual blockage.
I am so glad I found these pages! I had a widow maker heart attack back in Dec `23. I have chf. In April of `24 they started me on Repatha. My body rejected statins by turning my muscles to concrete! A no go. Now I have had symptoms all along, just attributed them to my heart attack. Lately they have been so bad it is hard to do anything. My breathing is affected. I can't catch my breath. I will feel a weird palpitation in my heart and the wind goes out of me. I am so weak. I am only 65, but now using motor carts to shop. I have always been active and on the go. My muscle pain has risen drastically. I keep getting sick. My lungs as in flues and colds. Even had covid twice in 2 months. I had my lungs tested and passed with flying colors. I am developing nueropathy in my feet now too. I have tried working with my cardio team about this. Who, btw, I simply love. They are not so high on my va;entines list right now. The Dr sent me for an echocardio. While there are some issues, he claims they are not responsible for my symptoms. (even tho I googled the name and it pointedly had these issues). I was tossed down to my NP. He did the same to me and tossed me down to my GP. I have an appt coming up with her. It was while researching my meds to see what could be piling on the weight and making me drool like a spigot, that I ran across these forums. I never would have guessed Repatha also could be the culprit. I knew it aggrevated my RLS, but it has a short list of symptoms, so as long as my legs weren't cramping hugely, I thought I was good to go. Should have been smart enough to realize they wouldn't list all the symptoms being felt! Getting hard to trust in drs anymore.
