How long have you lived with COPD?

Posted by puddy68 @puddy68, Sep 30, 2024

Hi there - I'm so sorry, this is my second post in 2 days. I think I mentioned in my previous post that I was FEV1 50%. I think I also mentioned [and if I didn't, it would be pretty obvious] that I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. Have managed to push a psych appointment to tomorrow - this COPD has really thrown me. I'm absolutely convinced I only have a few years left to live, no matter what I read [and I'm now staying away from google]. I realised I needed help when I wasn't believing what I'm reading, and I'm driving my family crazy. I have just one question - would people be willing to share with me how long they have had COPD for? I'm sorry for repeating myself........I'm just reaching out for as much help as I can. God Bless.

Yes, it is very concerning, and I know how you feel. I was diagnosed with COPD in 2016 and put on oxygen for use at night. My Dr said try every day to exercise to keep my oxygen level high. I am now 83 years old and never smoked. My oxygen level has not changed in 9 years. There is hope!

I can’t locate Musinex 1200 at Walmart anymore . I heard that it might still be found at Rite aid or Walgreens. The FD removed one of the ingredients . Walmart brand Musinex is now selling as Guaifenesin. I tried it , and not
good for my phlegm needs.
My otc used to cover Musinex.
. Now it won’t cover Guaifenesin. Good Luck, Crystalina

If you are at FEV1 50%, I envy you!
I’ve had COPD for over a dozen years & my FEV1 is now at 32%, considered very severe.
Just hang in there!

I've had for 4o years and I've been able to keep I under control with meds ad Doctors care. It has changed over the years and is further complicated by Asthma but, with yearly medical visits it is controlled. I'll be 79 in July and am making plans to live at least to 95 maybe 100.

I’ve had it for over 30 years diagnosed. It’s only affected me in the last six months but I’m still getting around still can feed myself still can dress myself. I’m getting older. I find meditation helps. Try to get out and walk every day even if it’s just a few steps Watch your diet. Try to eat healthy and try to stay positive and try to be thankful for what you have that seems to help a lot.
