Can you catch anything from a person who has no kidneys and has a lot?
I know of a young man around 27 years of age who has no kidneys and is suffering severely. I would like to know if his infections could cause someone else to get sick?

Hi @jnb123. Quite frankly, I think the bigger concern is that this young man, whose health is seriously compromised, should be limited in his exposure to anyone who could pass along an illness to him. Ideally, anyone who visits would be wearing a mask, along with this young man himself, to help prevent the spread or contraction of any airborne pathogens.
Any infectious disease can be spread. But with proper precautions such as masking, frequent hand washing or hand sanitizer, avoid touching face with hands, keeping a respectful distance, etc., you should be able to visit with this young man. This can’t be an easy situation for him at all! Is he waiting for a kidney transplant?
@jnb123 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I'm sure your friend is appreciative of your asking this question.
Is he on dialysis? What infections does he have, that you are concerned about? @loribmt gave you some very helpful advice, already.
