Covid Spring Vaccine Booster shot?
For those who typically get a Covid vaccine booster in the spring and fall, the booster shots are available now for spring 2025. They’ve probably been available for a while in some areas. In North America thankfully the flu, cold and RSV season - peak season - is coming to an end.
Generally, pulmonologists and respirologists recommend vaccines for patients with Bronchiectasis and MAC.

Yes and thank you for the reminder. It is easy to have things like that slip by and forget. Though peak season is over, Covid will never leave us. It is here to stay.
@jnmy I have only been told to get an annual Covid vaccine. Do you know when an every six months Covid vaccine is recommended?
By the way, I recently had an MMR antibody test done as I was unsure of my measles vaccination status. I was born at a time where it seemed we were all vaccination, needed medical slip just to get into school. But it was so long ago, I have no idea what the specifics may have been. My mother has passed so no information there. Given the recent measles outbreaks, I did some research and there are certain years when the vaccine used is now considered a little questionable in terms of duration (it is suppose to be a one and done vaccine). I seemed to fall in the years that vaccine may have been used (assuming I got it in the first place). I checked with my doctor and they said there is a blood test to check your MMR status and whether you need another vaccine. So if you are unsure about your vaccine status for measles it may be worth checking, since it is a simple blood test.
Hi @bayarea58
You could always double check with your doctor, pulmonologist or pharmacist for their medical opinion. There are a small percentage of people who can’t get the vaccine for medical reasons.
I’ve been taking a Covid vaccine every six months - in October when available and again in March. It is a booster this spring since there isn’t a change to adjust to new variants. It gives our immune system a boost to protect against serious infection or hospitalization if you get the virus.
Some younger people - with no chronic disease - may not be getting this spring booster, but the pharmacist told me that more 60+ folks are getting the vaccine and anyone who might be at risk for significant illness after an infection.
I believe researchers are working on a formulation for an annual Covid Vaccine shot and even a nasal spray vaccine to protect at the source.
We can be thankful for scientific research!
I just got a Moderna COVID booster, as did my husband. We are going to travel in May and prefer to protect ourselves as well as possible. We did get this booster (Novavax) when it 1st came out but we figured it’s worth it to us to boost ourselves. It was quick and easy and no copay.
My pharmacist and my Primary told me that :
1) The CDC recommendation is for people 65 and over (or those with compromising health conditions) to REPEAT the Covid booster that came out in Fall 2024. This is because it is known that vaccine protection decreases over time. And that strain of Covid is still around.
2) One should repeat the booster 6 months from the date they got the Fall 2024 Covid booster. They can do sooner if they have a reason to do so
3) Healthy individuals will get a Covid vaccine annually
There is not yet a new updated Covid vaccine
H & I both got our covid booster. We had gotten Novavax 6 months ago and this time we got Moderna. We wanted as much protection as possible before we head to a conference in a few weeks, full of lung doctors who treat sick patients.
