TAVR surgery and still am breathless and have heart flutters

Posted by eileenmarie12 @eileenmarie12, 6 days ago

Had TAVR surgery on 3/17/25 for aortic stenosis and have heart flutters and pounding and feel very weak in the morning. When do you usually feel stronger? Also my beta blocker was stopped the night before surgery and he says I don't need it but at the end of the visit said try a low dose of it (25mg of Metoprolol ER Succinate). My cardiologist didn't recommend cardiac rehab. Can I get it on my own or does it have to be recommended by my doctor?

My TAVR surgery to re replace my mitral valve was 1/30/2025. While our cardiac conditions are different, I will share my thoughts and experiences.
1. Like you, my mornings are the slowest part of my day.
2. My Metropropol was also lowered to 25mg twice a day.
3. Your cardiologist will need to write an order for cardiac rehab. I would write to your cardiologist using the portal and explain why you want rehab. I’m sure they will do it for you.

I have had several heart surgeries. It takes time before your heart can settle down from the trauma of surgery. I would use the portal to report these symptoms to your cardiologist while at the same time resting and taking care of my body and my spirit.
One month post op I still had symptoms. Now that I’m almost 3 months out, I’m so much improved. I believe you just need to give your body time. Also, I make an effort to keep my cardiologist informed. I don’t make unnecessary demands but keep him in the loop of how I’m responding to medications and exercise.
Have you tried walking? It’s so good for your heart and your mind. And, you don’t need a written order from your doctor, just get out there and walk.
I hope this has been helpful and wish you a speedy recovery.

Cardiac is highly recommended. Just recovering from aortic valve and double bypass pass in January and the rehab is wonderful in building strength plus the psychology is also a benefit as you associate with others in recovery. I’d do it !!!

Thank you for your positive response. I don't know why my dr. is not recommending it!

All the best to you.
