Improving neuropathy without spending a fortune - What actually helps?

I’ve spent a ton of money trying to get rid of or easing my neuropathy with no results. Has anyone had any luck with this?

Responding to your comment on barefoot shoes. I currently have problems finding any shoes that are comfortable. I have a pair of Altra's that are okay comfortable but found the zero drop Altra's uncomfortable. I have been intrigued by the barefoot shoes but hesitate to buy shoes without a recommendation from someone with experience. Which barefoot shoes would you recommend? How do they feel on the bottom of your feet? Most shoes are so uncomfortable for the bottoms of my feet which seem to be very sensitive to the breakdown of the soft bottom shoes. I would really love to find some sandals for the summer that I could wear and have been looking at Hoka brand - I know people who wear Hoka shoes and love them. Thanks

I love my Hoka Clifton 9. I have a Hoka slip-on for wearing in the house, but the toe bed is not as comfortable. I bought them online. If you invest in a Hoka shoe, try them on in and store and really walk around. I went to a Dick’s Sporting Goods, and the young kids there knew nothing about the shoe, but let me walk in different models all around the store. The Hoka Clifton 9 works very well for me. There is also the Hoka Bondi 9 and one other I cannot recall. I tried Zero shoes. A no go. Very unbalanced and just not comfortable, for me.

A great lounge chair and scotch on the rocks works great.

I am an 85-year-old, with alcohol-induced peripheral neuropathy diagnosed in 2018. Super vitamin B and 300g of ALA seemed to reduce numbness in both feet. No pain or balance issues were experienced over the next 7 years. Learning from the discussions on Mayo Connect that each individual responds differently to various "cures," I have experimented with 50g daily of Biotin for 5 weeks with no detectable change. Switching my ALA to 300g daily of Stabilized R-Lipolic Acid again reduced the intensity of foot numbness this past year. Because the numbness seemed to be intensifying and impacting areas above the ankle, I increased the R-LA to 600g daily March 27 and noticed significant reduction in numbness after April 16. Note: My primary physician is in the loop and ensures my experiments do not conflict with other medications I am taking for gout, acid reflux, and blood pressure.

I have had problems with neuropathy since I was in my early 40s. I am now 79. I have been taking Juice Plus their Berry capsules for years. It helps tremendously with the numbness. Our circulation in our legs is the problem and the berries Target this problem. I have just recently added Dynamic nerve from Stonehenge and it is helping me. Also. I don't take any prescription medications for my neuropathy. I hope that this helps someone. Using the berries works on the cellular level and it takes at least 6;weeks to feel the results. There are 17!servings of berries in the capsules. And it needs to be continued to have our sensations back.

Glad you found some non-Rx help. I will look into this. My neuropathy appears to have been caused by my severe reaction to the Rx Methylprednisolone--a doctor prescribed it for my sinus infection and even though I took it for only two days, I now have a plethora of problems.

Has anyone ever heard of or used the neuroPro, electrical muscle stimulation? I just bought one for $97. I've tried it just a few times so I don't know if it works. It has several different types of effects and a button you can make the intensity lower or really high. It gives you different kinds of like electrical shocks. It is a pad you place your feet on. Feels weird but good in a way!! I'm just so scared it might make my feet and legs worse than they are. Just wandering if anyone has tried this or something like it and can tell me if I should continue using it. Thanks,
Karyn

Great news Jetson.
Yes alcohol was the cause. Nerves are insulated with a fat called MYELIN. Alcohol dissolve fat. Have you cut back enough. Go for it.
