Tymlos causing belly fat?

Posted by kaa1 @kaa1, Jun 3, 2024

I’m on Tymlos for about 2 1/2 months now. I’m not usually concerned about my weight. I stay pretty stable. I’ve noticed that my belly seems to be getting fatter. Has anyone experienced this belly fat situation from Tymlos? Is there anything I can do about it? Why is it happening? Thanks for any input.

Me too …. wondering if I should switch to Forteo
I’m adjusting my Tymlos to only four clicks, so I don’t know how I would react to for Theo since that Campeon adjusted

I switched to Forteo after 3 months on Tymlos since insurance wouldn't pay for Tymlos anymore. I found Forteo to be slightly better, but I still feel pretty crappy. I also work full time, so I need to be up early.

Hi:
I'm on Evenity and the same thing happened. After the first shot I was 4 lbs heavier the next morning all in my stomach. I lost 2.5 of it but then gained three pounds the second month and another the third. I didn't gain weight on my next shot but I am unable to lose the belly fat. Originally the infusion center nurse said that it wasn't a side effect but this last injection she had another patient complain of the same issue. I have feeling that this is a less known side effect but it is definitely real. I just keep watching what I eat very carefully and I'm hoping at the end of the year once I am done with the shots it will disappear also.

I’m glad you brought this up because I am 4 months into Tymlos and I now have belly fat and I don’t feel like exercising as much. I’m tired all the time and am wondering if my metabolism is being affected. Is it a good thing to be on a med if it doesn’t help me gain strength thru exercising? I was gaining muscle when weight lifting and feeling good prior to Tymlos. I’m becoming disheartened by the whole thing! Does this go away when stopping?? I’m thinking of going the HRT route post Tymlos as I don’t know if I can handle Reclast after this.

I am seeing my endo next week. I’ve stopped Tymlos…I finished up 17 months and I’ve been miserable. He wants to put me on Reclast… I didn’t know there were any other options. I’d prefer HRT If I can do that safely at age 63.

17 months yesterday. I think I am done! I see my endocrinologist next week… I don’t want to take any more and don’t want more belly fat. I was so fit before I started on this… I did have to recover from a fall but I have not felt like myself since taking this drug. I am dizzy, suffer vertigo and ongoing feeling of walking on a moving ship, other worldish, just really wonky headed. My energy isn’t quite what it was. I ache all over… winter was hard. Prior to taking Tymlos I worked out 4-5 times a week. Walked 3-6 miles most days and did yoga daily. I looked great and felt great. I learned that most people with vertigo have osteoporosis. I have low vitamin d and can’t get my d to increase until off of Tymlos or I ,ight get kidney stones. Low d is killing me slowly. Taking reclast next terrifies me. The necrosis of the jaw is a bad th8ng if it happens. I have great oral habits but always had teeth issues… lots of root canals (now they are saying you shouldn’t get root canals because they can’t get all of the root and bacteria stays in there and over time causes bug problems). Ugh. Don’t get me started on that one…anyway, I’d rather hrt if I can go that route. The problem is my age. I’m 63. I didn’t feel like I was aging until I started taking Tymlos…seriously. I was on no pharmaceuticals. Good luck.

Glad to know I'm not alone. I did start taking HRT at the same time of starting Tymlos and I am 63. I am glad I am on HRT. The more I read the more it makes sense. I mainly did it to combat some of the effects of Tymlos. I do believe it helps but like I said I am only 4 months into Tymlos at a steady dose of 7 clicks. I will not go up to 8 clicks. I am also "considering" raloxifene after Tymlos because I also do not want Reclast or Prolia. I do not want a "years worth" of medicine in my body all at once. I am upping my weight lifting and just forcing myself to do it even if I'm tired as I do not want to give in to the fatigue and belly fat. I was at -3.7 spine and -2.7 hip with a Dexa done on 8/2024 but I just got a REMS scan that stated I was osteopenia with good bone quality so I do not know what to believe!! It is more confusing than ever. Which is right Dexa or REMS?? I based my medication selection on the Dexa. I plan to do another REMS and maybe Dexa too in 6 months.

Thank you. I told my doctor I want to come off of it. I feel the same way...off, light headed and tired. I'm 58, work full time and try to get to the gym 4-5x a week. I read that lifting heavy helps promote bone growth. So I've gotten up to deadlift 135lbs. I'm going for a bone density test next week. I hope my numbers improved. Good luck to you as well and thanks again for sharing your experience.

Do you have any vertebral compression fractures? If so they usually compress anteriorly so your spine starts to bend forward and your stomach sticks out more. This has been one of the hardest things to get my head around. I have always had a small waist and belly. I have 4 fractures now, on Tymlos full dose for 6 months.
