Any opinions about Zoloft or Sertraline?
My husband passed away almost a year ago. I do feel a little depressed sometimes. My pcp has prescribed 50 mg sertraline. I have not taken it yet as I do not want to depend on medication. My doctor said I can take half of the pill. Does anyone have any side effects with Setraline

I have tried many antidepressants and always come back to Zoloft/Sertraline. It is well tolerated by the majority of people and when combined with Wellbutrin can be extremely effective.
I am sorry for your loss and I hope you take your Doctors advice. I used to take 100mg of Zoloft for many years and cut my dosage to 50 mg. I think that is the smallest dosage it comes in.
The stigma of depression and anxiety has finally been lifted. Many athletes and everyday people have been coming forth with their stories.
Good luck to you.

3 ReactionsSertraline really helped me deal with my depression. Don’t suffer. You can try it and if it doesn’t work or you feel you don’t need it anymore your Dr can take you off of it.

3 ReactionsI recommend it. I have been on zoloft for almost 20 years (started in my 20s). I was on 50mg until I needed an increase to 75mg a year and a half ago due to extra anxiety due to a life situation. It has been a major help.

2 ReactionsThe only thing Zoloft ever did for me was add 5 pounds of extra water weight. But everyone's different. The fact that it didn't help me doesn't mean that it won't help you. That's a triple negative, so to simplify, it didn't help me but it may help you!

3 ReactionsI had high expectations after hearing all the hype around Zoloft. However, it did absolutely nothing for me, and my depression got worse. It may work for you though. Everyone is different.

3 ReactionsI’ve been prescribed the same dose, and it’s been making me feel quite bad. Ive been experiencing a bit of chest pain on my left side and it hurts a bit to take a deep breath, or take a breathe through my nose, it feels like I can only inhale through one of my nostrils, my throat feels sore and a bit tight like someone has their hand around it, and my mouth is tingly. My hands are also feeling fuzzy and sweaty. Accidentally missed yesterdays dose too so, that’s not fun. It also is feeling uncomfortable to swallow. I’ve also felt my feet hands and feet tingle (the feeling you get when they’re tryna go to sleep), dizziness, diarrhea, acid reflux, fever, and im more aware of my surroundings, im
bouncing my leg a lot more, frequent yawning, itchy head, trouble breathing correctly, burning sensation on my tongue and around my gums, and sharp chest pains, all in 8 to 9 maybe even 10 days within starting it. It’s not been fun at all. Talked to my pharmacist they recommended I stop or cut back. It’s been also destroying my appetite and making me loose weight. Before starting the medication, I was 125, now I’m lucky if it’ll let me get past 118
Thanks for the like. I hope it helps people on the site.
It is unfortunate it has taken celebrities and professional athletes to reduce the stigma. Even so let’s embrace the freedom to discuss it openly with people we love and friends. I just got back from Europe and they have a whole different attitude about depression and anxiety. It is a sign of strength to deal with it and not a sign of weakness.
Good luck to everyone on the site.
Just started Zoloft for anxiety/depression-started at 25 mg and then after two weeks increased to about 40 mg by cutting pill in half. Third day at that dose noticing increase in anxiety, shakiness, restless, headache. Assuming these are all side effects and will pass eventually. I need some reassurance that this is worth it. I have so many other medical issues (cancer treatment, migraines etc.) which are causing the need for the Zoloft I just feel hopeless that I will ever feel good physically or mentally again. I am getting some counseling from the oncologist office. Thank you!

2 ReactionsI was prescribed Zoloft 25mg. for 7 days, increasing dosage to 50mg. After that. The first week I experienced waves of nausea with sensation of a cold flush going through my chest, arms and down to my fingertips. That sensation lasted only a few seconds. That side effect stopped in a week, and now I am on two capsules. I take Zoloft with food.
Brand name Zoloft comes in capsule form which cannot be split, of course. Since you are splitting your pills, I am wondering if you are taking a generic in pill form …?
