I have not had to go back since the second round of treatments. As I mentioned, I still occasionally feel it to a minor degree, but it's not often, prolonged, or bad. The first time was maybe 10-12 treatments over 3+ months, and the second was maybe half that. It's been several years, so timelines aren't clear anymore. No herbs, no moxa, just needles. I know that not everything works for everybody, but this worked for me. I hope it does for you, 'cause that BMS can be a real bitch!

UPDATE: I recently had a small flareup, and since I was seeing a different acupuncturist at the time, I mentioned it to him. He said he has treated it in the past. After two treatments, I'm back to normal.

I’m 55 and have a severe case of Burning Mouth as well. I’m going on three years and no significant relief. I’ve been to every doctor and have tried so many medication. I’ve seen doctors from John Hopkins and Georgetown in DC and still no results. The only temporary relief I get is mixing a few drops (as hot as you can tolerate) of Tabasco Sauce mixed with water and rinse your mouth out with it. I know it not conventional but it does give me about an hour of relief. If you try it and it works, please let me know (one of my doctors suggested it).

I used Tabasco sauce also and I haven't had Burning Mouth in sometime. I learned about it in this article from Brigham and Women's Hospital. You have to do it four times a day. I think I did it for 10 days. No longer have symptoms. On the rare occasion it returns I do the rinse. https://www.brighamandwomens.org/assets/BWH/surgery/oral-medicine-and-dentistry/pdfs/burning-mouth-syndrome-bwh.pdf

It’s been a gradual development for me, but got so I couldn’t stand it anymore. Was diagnosed by dentist who prescribed magic mouthwash. He knew nothing. Diagnosed by a second dentist who told me Gabapentin may help. Went to ENT, he had no clue what to do but did prescribe Gabapentin. I’ve only been on it for 2 days, but a lot of the black tongue calmed down, but still burning!
I can’t concentrate even on conversations. I’m so out of it, halfway thru the story I realize I have no idea what the other person is talking about!
The ENT also prescribed prednisone, but I’m not going to do that until I see if this gabapentin does anything.
I feel like I’m losing my mind. Next step is to travel to a teaching hospital to see mouth specialists, but I feel like I’m going to have the same outcome. I keep thinking I’ll get used to it but I don’t think so. The only thing that helps is drinking alcohol to help me forget about it!
This really sucks and I feel for you people

When my sinuses hurt I have so much pain, I feel like banging my head against a wall. I try so many different things but nothing helps as long as my sinuses are bad l I’m so tired of it all.

I am 77 and I have had BMS for 15yrs. I have been prescribed Prilosec, Dexilant,Alpha lopoic acid, magic mouth wash, Elavil,Neurontin,Carafate,Clonazepan.
I have also had Brovo PH, and acupuncture.
Lately I've read about low level laser therapy, but I haven't found any oral surgeon in my area that uses it for burning mouth syndrome.

Does anyone have symptoms along with their BMS that your mouth feels like there are thick strings in it, sometimes more prickly things that feel very sharp between your teeth and gums. You try to pull them out with your tongue but there is no end. Relief comes from magic mouthwash but is only temporary. I take gabapentin 900mg/ day, alpha lipoic acid, Lexapro with not much relief. I have been to an oral pathologist, neurologist and don’t know where else to go.

Wow, sounds like you have been through a lot. I recently started soaking my toothbrush head twice a week in hydrogen peroxide and swishing with a capful of hp and water. It seems to provide some relief. Dentist also suggested swishing with a capful of olive oil before bed. Hope this helps you.

I'm 45 and have had this for almost 4 months. My mouth hurts so bad I can hardly smile. I feel like it doesn't stop hurting at all!! I wake up hurting worse everyday. My doctor is baffled. I am getting so depressed. I am newly married and can't even kiss my husband. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was diagnosed with BMS 2 1/2 years ago. Two oral surgeons were unable to do anything for me. Then I went to a neurologist who gave me a rx for Lyrica (pregabalin). That helps manage the paid a lot as long as I avoid any acidic or spicy foods.

I do oil pulling first thing in mornings when I expect it will be a bad day for my tongue and mouth. It definitely helps.
