Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

Yes the exact same for me! I had it back around 2021/2022 also and ever since. I have committed to my mission for answers and to see if there is some type of ease for this. Or cure! Went ti holistic doctor he recommended supplements
Like NAC
vitamin B
I’m not sure if I have felt a difference of it going away maybe it was a little bit helpful, but at times I doubted it so I’m not 100% if the supplements helped

You have my symptoms exactly. I had covid in Dec 2023 and have had a sever cough and phlegm ever since. I cough so hard I throw up...sometimes what I have just eaten. I have tried antibiotics and cough syrups ....nothing works.

Has anyone not had the covid vaccine and suffering from this mucus irritation.
Just curious if the vaccines might be the cause.
I only had one vaccine and caught covid a month later and did not get vaccinated thereafter.

I was thinking the same thing. Just taking to family member, co-workers, and complete strangers has me believing a STUDY NEEDS TO BE DONE.
1. Itchy throat
2. Persistent nasal drainage.
3. Walking pneumonia.
4. Hospitalization for pneumonia.(if in an at risk population)
Is the very present order of of symptoms shared overwhelmingly among all. At least the people I have the opportunity to do life with. ANYONE ELSE?

I have the intermittent itchy throat and upper congestion and drainage. I will say all that has improved since starting an antibiotic for something else a week ago.

I agree with a study studying the curse of this excessive mucus constantly in my throat. I have tried 95% of suggestions from this site and had every test available. Depression has become a factor feeling helpless and fear of choking. I hope someone realizes how serious this is! Every dr I went to (primary, ENT, 2 gastrologists) diagnosis "Need to live with it! " just thoroughly disgusted!

Curious to know how many who share this constant phlegm issue have a history of severe food allergies or childhood or adult asthma. Some studies suggest we are more at risk for chronic inflammation post covid. For many of us, mucus production is worse after eating. Discussions on this thread of LPR being the potential cause but no one is certain.

I have history of anaphlaxis to peanuts and childhood asthma. Since getting COVID 3 years ago, I've been battling mucus that come from sinus' and back of throat and lungs, clear white and occasionally yellow. I will often notice increase mucus and slight expiratory wheeze after eating. I think it's related to common food allergy type foods.

I have tried to go gluten free (not perfect) and I seem to have less of a reaction. Some studies suggest that Covid can create new food sensitivities and gluten is a big one. I would cut out gluten, consider cutting out eggs as well, and see what happens. Ideally do a food elimination diet (chicken and rice) and then gradually add things back in based on symptoms.

I also take a Claritin, Omega 3, NAC, and mucinex to cover my bases each morning.

I'm not cured but I think it may be more manageable. Be interested to hear what other people experience and it going gluten free helps.

Good luck and I hope we can find an answer to this challenge,
Peter

I had the phlegm, too. I saw a post on here that said their respirologist told them it was because their upper sphincter was not working properly and the throat was cocooning the larynx to prevent damage from acid travelling up into the throat. Do you have a history of excess acid? I do.

After I had Covid, I experienced excess phlegm, both yellow and clear. An OTC solution that worked for me was Mucinex. It thins the phlegm, both yellow and clear, so you don't end up having to clear your throat every few minutes. It seemed to work for me in 24 hours.

I took an acid reducer to control the acid. If the body is protecting the larynx could reducing the phlegm negatively affect the larynx?

I never any food allergies but sensitive to dairy products. I avoid or limit ice cream, eggs, cheeses and use lactose milk. Never associated that with the mucus. I am going to try eliminating and fasting making a diary. Anything is worth a try. Thank you.
