Feels like a UTI but test is negative

Posted by dustycat52 @dustycat52, Sep 24, 2023

At least once a year I get symptoms of a UTI but the tests are negative. This time the test shows nitrates but the other parts of negative. I’ve been on nitrofurin five days and don’t feel a lot better. I don’t have burning when I urinate but I have pelvic and low back pain, lightheadedness, and just don’t feel great.Anyone else had a similar experience? I have a history of UTIs.

I’m going to read about the meds and next time I see one of my docs, I will ask about it. Hopefully not too soon…

I thought i had a uti on two separate occasions. Both times it was vaginal atrophy.
Estrogen cream and pelvic floor exercises took care of it.

Read about the treatments for MOGAD…I think that someone would have to be really suffering and ill with this disease to use the medication/treatments for it. Lots of side effects, but if you need the medication then I guess would be worth it.
My treatment for my bladder/urethra issues involves dilation several times a year, rectal Valium to ease pelvic discomfort and compounded estrogen used vaginally.
Some of these things are mentioned in MOGAD treatment…this seems to work for me.
I pray for anyone that has MOGAD and that they find comfort and a way to function with ease…

I had that, too. MANY negative urine tests and cultures later an MRI with contrast found diverticulitis and infected kidney.

I’m so sorry anyone going through this. I have lived with this since the 90 ‘S . I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis . Most recently I had a Cystoscope and he dilated my Urethra. It helped some but I have an Interstim for my bladder. Failed back surgery, spinal fusion caused bladder issues on top of my chronic bladder condition. Please keep pressing for a diagnosis. God Bless you all in your journey of healing.

I have exactly the same systems, I am tired of this.
Just finished a three week stint and three different antibiotics. I did find that just because your urine test shows normal it doesn’t mean you don’t have a uti. Mine were normal but the culture showed E. coli. I must have gone to urgent care 4 times, infact I told them I was going to put my name on a chair in the waiting room. I just finished my cipro which made me very nauseas. But tonight I feel pressure again and I am going to the bathroom more. No pain yet but I have found you don’t necessary get the pain. I started Semaine this week and bought some D-Mannose,I am also using a suppositories. Urgent care said I should contact my urologist but the last time my results came in Friday late and they didn’t call me,I would have gone all weekend without the correct antibiotics. I am at the point of what do I do. I don’t have much trust with doctors having had 3 cancers already. Let me know how you’re doing and what you are using. At this point I am desperate.

I responded on another site, same thing frequent UTI’s. Last one lasted 3 weeks with 3 different antibiotics. Now I feel I am getting another no pain yet just pressure.
I started a cranberry hibiscus from Semaine and D-Mannose, also using a suppository. I am so exhausted this drains me. It has only been a week since I stopped my cipro and I have only had 4 normal days. Went to urologist who told me not to go to urgent care but when I called for my results on a Friday they did not have them yet so since they did not call I went to urgent care and they changed my antibiotics so I stayed with them since that antibiotic did not work either and they gave me cipro. I went 4 times and each time they tested my urine which showed normal but the culture showed e coli. So I now insist on both. I am sure when I go to my urologist she is not going to be happy with me since she made it clear I was to see her so she could keep track of me, maybe they should have called me?

Almost the same story, numerous times, except this time I had no symptoms and the infection traveled to my brain. Yes, it can do that. UTI also caused urinary retention and urologist said I would wear a catheter for life,
I actually became psychotic. I have barely any memory of that time. Mostly it's all black, and probably just as well. I'm told it was that bad.
I was hospitalized and put on every uber strong antibiotic known to man. Days later, one finally worked.
Regarding the catheter, that in itself causes UTIs. I'm a widow and haven't had any relations with anyone in five or more years. So it wasn't that.
I went to Johns Hopkins for a second opinion and the first thing the urologist did was to pull the catheter, then told me about a cutting-edge option that could be done if necessary. I haven't been on one since. I practice maintenance, using low dose antibiotics, Azo products, low dose of Lasix, plenty of fluids. My lady parts have never been so clean!
I had to have a quad bypass when I was just 47. This experience was a thousand times worse.
Just my story. Wishing you all the best that you find an answer soon. God bless.

What a nightmare for you? So glad you seem to have found something that works for you? That’s why I insist on a culture when the urine test comes back negative. I just started taking Semaine, found it on Facebook it had great reviews and I am taking D- Mannose every day, I just started doing this. I was also told by my urologist to use hyaluronic acid suppositories. I am so paranoid that I will end up with sepsis. I am going to see if I can get blood work every month done, but would that show sepsis? For some reason I have days when I am really tired I don’t know if this is my age 76 or not. I will check out the lasix. Thanks so much for your info.

I'm no doctor, but I think blood testing is used to detect sepsis.
