Tips on minimizing withdrawal symptoms from Effexor (aka Venlafaxine)

Posted by richyrich @richyrich, Nov 2, 2016

I have been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine for years and tried to get off it a few times but each time I try to give up the chemical withdrawal symptoms are a horror story and I give up giving up. Anyone got any tips or tried and tested strategies? Thank you

Hi everyone. Haven't posted lately. I'm now taking 150mgs of effexor and 50 Seroquel. The Seroquel has not helped at all. It makes me feel numb emotionless and depressed. I've only been on the Seroquel 4 weeks now and hate it. Going to quit taking it. This isn't living. This hell on Earth.

Sorry the new combo isn't helping.
I know each drug takes time before it works. Could it be you need more time?

@jakedduck1 while I appreciate your concern about my health, I was only given neurontin for fibromyalgia. I've never had a seizure disorder.

You may find my decisions irresponsible and that may prove to be the case. If so I'll be the first to admit it.

I've never been told to straighten up and fly right. That gave me a chuckle, as I could envision it being said with the shake of a finger and prefaced by "young lady".

@farmboy it great to hear from you even though it's not the good news I'd like to hear. Maybe it's taking time for the medicine to work. Please hang in there!

I’m so sorry you’re not doing well. Has anyone discussed electroshock therapy? Maybe it’s not called that anymore, however. But I have heard wonderful things about it. I have a friend who was treated with it and it helped tremendously. I wish doctors and people understood anxiety and depression better. I agree. These past few days have been harsh. For you even more.

Incidentally, perhaps it’s obvious but, are you a farmer? Reason I ask is because where I live, there are commercial in TV asking “do you know a farmer with depression” and it’s a common thing. I love in delaware, bTW. I’ll see if I can find out more. Perhaps there’s something specifically you need/are lacking that could help.
