Bringing compressor for nebulizer on plane

Posted by Mary @mjb24, Oct 4, 2024

I will be flying to Chicago later this month and wondered if it will be a problem bringing my Pari Controller (for Arikayce) and my other compressor used for saline nebulizer on the plane. Has anyone taken their compressor on a plane before? Did you have to put it in a checked bag rather than a carryon?

@cynie Which one did you buy?
I already ordered the DeVilbiss Traveler Portable Nebulizer System but it hasn't arrived yet.

Hi

How has your portable system worked?

It worked great for travel. I use it all the time now. It is a little loud but works great and I like how small it is. Also, great that I can run it on battery if we lose power

I use the Pari trek. It’s a smaller plug in jet nebulizer. I didn’t buy optional battery pack as I always have a handy outlet to plug it in.

I have purchased the Omron Microair Vibrating Mesh Nebulizer Model NE-U100
It uses 2 AA batteries which last quite a long time
It makes no noise, is lightweight and easy to use, and easy to clean/disinfect
I like it so much that I have stopped using the compressor Neb
I do not recall the price but found it to be much less expensive than some better know nebs such as paritrek
Important to learn how to assemble properly but then ....no problem

Hi
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Has anyone looked into the Pari erapid? It is really expensive.
Does Medicare cover any portable nebulizer?

Thanks
Pat

The price alone turned me away! When I asked about Medicare coverage for any nebulizer other than a very basic one, both Just Nebulizers and my local home medical equipment company said they never saw one get covered, unless specifically required for a nebulized medication (I believe Arikayce, at least doing trials, had a specific requirement.)

I listened to a webinar talking about traveling with the equipment. One of the patients needed to secure a new tube and had a language barrier at the foreign pharmacy, I believe it was a pharmacy. My thoughts were that we need to take pictures of our equipment on the cell phone when traveling in case of an emergency situation of something going wrong, especially in a foreign country. You may already do this.

I forgot the top cover of my pari nebulizer cup so I ordered another nebulizer cup and am using it. My old cup was getting old anyway and I now that one more.

I used vibrating mesh and the Pari jet nebulizer. I was able to get my insurer to pay a portion of my purchase price because that’s the only new nebulizer compressor I’ve gotten in >5 years. I think they may have laid 50% or more. I was glad they paid anything.

I like the quiet of the vibrating mesh nebulizers but the pari is what most clinical trials are run on and also the cup fits well with the aerobika so I can use the 2 together at the same time and get my mucus clearance while doing the 3% saline nebulizing.
