Dear @jsaved74
One time only? Are you coming up your husband of this mental health?
From 12 years ago, I had a bicycle accident that a brain-injury person. It’s not like, you think, your husbands problem is here, BUT:
1. Did His family , over decades ago, had ALZ?
2. Did he had an accident by falling down?
3. Has he been a medical used with doctors resently?
Thx,

First, sorry you and your husband are experiencing any distress. My husband has vascular dementia and is starting to have more restless dreams. The only time he has experienced hallucinations to date was when he was given Valium and hydrocodone post surgery. At that time he was experiencing seeing and talking to his childhood dog. This could be the beginning of hallucinations for your husband, but it could also be what is called time shifting a phenomenon that happens often as dementia progresses. “ TIMESHIFTING. At times believing/perceiving they are in another, simpler time of their life.” Have any new medication’s been added and if the hallucinations continue consider possible UTI and confer with his medical team. Besides my personal experience with my husband, I am a recently retired license therapist who specialized in corresponding with law-enforcement to those experiencing changes in mental health status, many with Dementia. Best wishes and I hope you get some answers.
My husband has vascular dementia and is legally blind - he jumped out of bed (we have a door in the bedroom to the back garden), opened the door, and went outside at 3 AM, waking me up. When he came back in, I asked what was going on. He stated the TV was on (not on), and he fell asleep instantly. He also urinated outside. It appears to be a hallucination - no new meds, no unusual stress. He also moves his legs at night like he is running, which happens regularly. He is aware of his dementia getting worse.
At 11:30 one night my father insisted on going out to check the hogs. Mom was already in her nightgown. She put on a long coat and some shoes while Dad was putting on his coat. Off they went, walking the streets for about 45 minutes before Dad finally said, "I think they will be alright." They had not had a farm or hogs for 50+ years. Very shortly thereafter, they moved to a care facility.
Sometimes sudden changes or new symptoms are triggered by another problem (uti? Medication? Flu? Pain?) Use your PCP to troubleshoot. For the delusion or hallucination, take steps to ensure their/your safety. Then calmly and gently enter their reality to help them through the moment.
When my husband and I settle down after dinner to watch TV, he inevitably falls asleep or semi-sleep. He begins making gestures and reaching out for something that's obviously invisible and he mumbles and talks about random things that don't make much sense. A lot of his ramblings are conversations or memories of his past or explanations of things, but it's all so disconnected that, try as I might, I can't make sense of what he's saying. Is he having hallucinations or delusions? What's going on here? When he wakes up, he'll have no idea about how much time has passed. The other evening when he woke up, he asked me what I was doing up so early, as if it were morning, not evening. What's happening?
My husband does the same. We are 3 infusions in on Kisunli
Have you checked out a Parkinson's diagnosis? The REM sleep disorder (the running legs) is one of the first signs of it.
My husband to get up in the middle of the night and go outdoors. Once had to go to the hospital due to hyperthermia. I stopped it (called sundowning) by giving him 10 mg of melatonin at 4 pm and another 10 mg of melatonin at 9 pm. He never sun downed again except for one time my son forgot to give him the first dose until 6 pm.
@jigoe1 I know you’ve been checking out Mayo Connect, but this is your first time posting! You certainly have added to this discussion!
A question. How did you find MayoClinicConnectConnect?
