How long have you lived with COPD?

Posted by puddy68 @puddy68, Sep 30, 2024

Hi there - I'm so sorry, this is my second post in 2 days. I think I mentioned in my previous post that I was FEV1 50%. I think I also mentioned [and if I didn't, it would be pretty obvious] that I suffer from severe anxiety and depression. Have managed to push a psych appointment to tomorrow - this COPD has really thrown me. I'm absolutely convinced I only have a few years left to live, no matter what I read [and I'm now staying away from google]. I realised I needed help when I wasn't believing what I'm reading, and I'm driving my family crazy. I have just one question - would people be willing to share with me how long they have had COPD for? I'm sorry for repeating myself........I'm just reaching out for as much help as I can. God Bless.

I have read your comment on COPD, very interesting it sounded identical to my symptoms only difference I have been diagnosed with Emphasema just 6 months ago. I have Asthma, Bronchitis, and COPD for the last two years (that were know about). I need sleeping tabs or I just don’t sleep! What is O2, I’ve never heard of it but you have peaked my interest. Not sure where you live but I’m in Australia.

People refer to oxygen as O2.

O2 is oxygen. I have a stationary concentrator and portable concentrators which supply it. Have had it via liquid oxygen but it’s rarely ever available in the US any more due to budget cutbacks.

I learned I had it 20 years ago. But just in the last 10 years has it been really bad. I’m on 02 24/7 . I take an inhaler that helps some but it doesn’t allow me to do much. I contemplated a lung transplant but I’m 71 and I’m not sure I have what it takes to go through all of that. I still ponder it.this COPD is depressing not being able to do what I want. I’m hoping for a miracle drug or procedure to come out soon. Best wishes

I have had COPD for 27 years, and my SP stays at around 95-96. I am not on 02, and it has definitely gotten worse, but I don't think about it killing me. I get up and do whatever I can, though much slower than I did in my 70s. I will be 87 in a few weeks. I look to live on into my 90s. It is all in the attitude, I will say I, or rather my wife will, I am getting grumpier

I have had COPD for ten years. Smoker for 35 years. Started out slow but deteriorates a little every year. Currently on 4 liters oxygen, 13 pills and very little stamina. I am 89 years old on the 28 Feb and almost had a birthday. Just able to live alone with help.
