Tips on minimizing withdrawal symptoms from Effexor (aka Venlafaxine)

Posted by richyrich @richyrich, Nov 2, 2016

I have been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine for years and tried to get off it a few times but each time I try to give up the chemical withdrawal symptoms are a horror story and I give up giving up. Anyone got any tips or tried and tested strategies? Thank you

@grandmar you are so right about Dr,s some like to pigeon hole you so you need to find a Dr that has your best interest at heart. Listen to your body.

@lioness and JK- I hate that when doctors do that. How dare they.

@jakedduck1 He is incredible. He is like no other doctor I have ever had -- very caring and when appropriate has shared personal things. When I was diagnosed with cirrhosis he suggested that I might want to see a therapist and told me about a crisis in his life when he did and how valuable he found it. Not many doctors would be so personal with a patient. I only see him once a year but when I do he seems to really remember me. He probably just takes good notes, but it's nice regardless. Of course he's a really good doctor also.

@merpreb I just thought she might need more detail, and I have always been known as a detail person. Not sure if that’s good or bad.

Howdy Tex, how ya’ll doin back younder?
Hahaha!!! Your a kick Tex. I would have liked too but I’ve been in enough trouble lately. If I really said what I sometimes think needs to be said, heads would roll (mine) I’d be kicked outta here in a New York minute. Someone said I wasn’t compassionate awhile back, imagine that. I took a little offense to it at the time but maybe I need to give it a rethink, well maybe??????
I visited friends in Holiday in 1984. Have to admit the people are friendly in Texas. Waitress sat down at our table, introduced herself, talked to us and wrote our names upside down. I was quite impressed but I’m from California so any act of kindness is impressive. Restaurants here it’s more like sit down, order quick eat fast and get out.
Have a good ole day thar Tex,
Jake

@jakedduck1 You didn't find the biggest town to visit, did you? Holliday has somewhere between 1,700–1,800 population and is about 20 miles outside the bustling metropolis of Wichita Falls (105,747 population), known as the home of the Hotter'N Hell 100 bike race that occurs at the end of August (when it is hotter than hell except this year when we had rain in Texas for weeks and weeks and so it wasn't). My dad was stationed at Sheppard AFB (on the north edge of WFalls) and retired there in the early 60s, so I grew up in WFalls. I really only know Holliday as a town you blow through on your way to Dallas/Ft. Worth and now that 287 is a real highway (at least 40 years), you just see some of the outskirts as you fly by on the hwy.
