Foley Catheter Discomfort: How do you walk comfortably?
Have the foley catheter. Can't seem to find comfort in walking, the drain tube moves ever so slightly with each pace and gives me extreme pain. I am comfortable sitting down, but when I walk it just aches terribly. I have tried the STAY LOCK, sort of arrangement to keep the tubing tight against body., but still not good. Is the problem the mounting of the tubes to the leg, or could it possibly be a change on the type of underwear you would wear... boxers, briefs, tight against body, loose against body. Open to suggestions, just cannot keep the tubing from moving in the meatus area...very painful. Thoughts??

Mayo Clinic store has all the supplies you need to be comfortable. I had Foley for 2 years and suprapubic for 1 year. There are elastic leg straps that attach to the tube and go around upper thigh to hold it in place. Buy some 3m white paper tape and also tape the catheter with some slack to your lower tummy. I had no discomfort at all. The store can help you.
Depends makes a light shield. I had one those to add some protection from underwear moving and the irritation.
My dad search for the same thing, too, He was using the anchors for tubing. But they get wet and not work has well. He explained of what's going on. What we found that large soft cloth velcro that fits through the slots on the top and bottom, It is helping a lot better. It stay more in place and secure for him while his movement through out the day. He not complaining anymore. Always looking for the best item/s. Good luck!
I’ve had numerous catheters over the past couple of months as my prostate was bleeding and catheters would plug with clots often. My first couple weeks were the most uncomfortable. It appears that the main reason was my penis was not laying in the “normal” direction. In other words before the catheter my penis would point mostly to the left however the doctor had installed the statloc on my right thigh. Once I changed this it made a world of difference. I still get crusties but if you can keep the tip and tube lubed it really helps. I use leg bag and work a fairly labor intensive job. I don’t think any of my coworkers know I have it.
Had an IR procedure yesterday to curtail prostate bleeding. I now have a “22” foley with a 30cc balloon. Having some bladder spasms but at least not because foley is plugged. Hope to get rid of this thing soon.
You might try wrapping a stocking around your penis before pulling your under wear up. I used underwear that would go an inch or two down my leg. I golf every Wednesday so walk quite a bit. I had a foley for 13 months. That thing that sticks on your leg broke after a couple weeks and I never used one of those again. I used a string around the upper rubber band of the leg bag. I tied the string onto my belt to keep the bag from falling as it filled. You need to be creative. LOL
From having had several Foley catheters for up to two weeks at a time, I found the key was to securing the catheter very firmly to my leg. The primary cause of discomfort I felt was in any degree of pulling down on the catheter. Even if everything looked secure I would often find this was not the case. I found it took a good bit more tightening of the straps on both my upper and lower leg than I would have thought. Part of the reason for this is as soon as you start walking the straps give/loosen a bit.
