Looking for 7% saline in Toronto for my MAC
Hi I am in Toronto. My MAC was diagnosed in March last year, and I started the big 3 treatment in May. My sputum turned negative last August, but became positive again in November, a CT scan in Jan this year shows more nodules in the lungs. I learned about 7% saline from this blog, , but it is hard to find it . I am wondering if Canadian prescription is accepted at US pharmacies or if there's any store cross boarder where I can get this medication without prescription. I can drive there and buy some. Thank you

It looks like it's available on amazon.ca . No script required.
Thank you for your suggestion. It is quite expensive on Amazon.ca. what other option do I have? I have to pay out-of-pocket because it isn't covered by insurance. Is anyone here from Toronto?

You may need to call is 7% sodium chloride nebulizing solution. In our state, when I called it 7% saline, ALL the pharmacies insisted such a thing didn’t even exist. Once I reframed it as 7% sodium chloride nebulizing solution, they said they had it! It seems trivial, but they are sticklers about the exact term.
Hi, I live in Waterloo region, which is close to you. I used to buy my 7% saline from amazon (best price) but that suddenly stopped some time in 2024. I get it now from my pharmacy.
A couple of things to think about:
I needed a prescription so I got one from my doctor - not a big deal.
I had been going to one of the big chain pharmacies in Canada. They to got it in and charged me the dispensing fee on top of a small markup in price.
A friend suggested I try an independent pharmacy, which I did, and now I buy the saline from them at $20 less than the chain pharmacy was charging. No dispensing fee or markup. I moved all of my prescriptions, of course, which is probably why not making a lot of $$ on the saline is a good trade off for them.
So - I encourage you to shop around a bit. It was not difficult to get the saline ordered in by either pharmacy but the independent pharmacy has more flexibility in pricing.
Someone mentioned Theranaturals for nebulized saline and other products.
Their products are not FDA approved.
Your doctor will prescribe it for you. Get it through your local pharmacy.
You might want to think about joining the Canadian bronchiectasis and NTM support group. They are part of the support group network that will be working along with the bronchiectasis care centers in the US. From a recent conference I attended, it looks like they will also be setting up a similar system in Canada. I believe they meet monthly using Zoom. But it’s best to reach out to the group leader Esther so she can put you on the email list. Just another layer of support!!

Thank you Linda, I will contact her.
Yes, in the US, I always have my MD write a Rx for 3% nebulizing sodium chloride solution so that I am able to get it. Our local chain pharmacy sells it at a reasonable enough price that I haven’t shopped around.
Hi there. I live downtown, in Cabbagetown, and I get my 7% saline from St Mike’s hospital pharmacy. It comes with 60 vials, a new set of tubing and a new PARI LC PLUS nebuliser. It’s by HyperSal and is around $70CAD. The stuff I find on Amazon is around the same price with no equipment 🤷🏻♀️. You don’t need a prescription.
Good luck!
