After transplant I have hair loss due to meds: Will it come back?

I had my liver transplant 7 months ago. Everything went wonderfully, however, I'm experiencing severe hair loss due to my anti-rejection meds. Will my hair come back? Is there anything folks have done to help with the hair loss? I'm taking Biotin for several months and it hasn't helped.

Great news on your transplant! I don’t have any information about the meds you are taking, but I might check with a dermatologist. Mine was due to something else, but I take Minoxidil. It’s proven to be helpful to some people.

I'm pre-transplant and my hair started falling out about three months ago. The dermatologist who is very up to date on medical conditions said mine was due to pressure on the hepatic vein with ascites. She said to use Minoxidil 5% foam that I got from Amazon but it made me itch. The two other ingestible products were nixed by my hepatologist as they would make my liver condition worse. I had already been taking Natures Bounty Hair, Skin and Nails but switched to the new advanced formula of the same product for the last few months. I just waited to see what was going to happen and it has stopped falling out and is now attempting to grow back. What hair didn't fall out has grown 1/2 inch so I think I'm through it. Fingers crossed.

I am 4 months post kidney transplant and suffering hair loss. One of the many side effects of tacrolimus. I am told by my transplant team that nothing can be done and it should stop at some point 🙄

It took around 1 year for me to feel that my hair and finger nails had reached a satisfactory level.
I took biotin as directed by dermatologist, with transplant team approval. And I used gentle hair products that my hair dresser uses for her cancer patients.
My hair health has continued to improve over time! As I approach my 16th year with liver/kidney transplant, my hair is shiny natural silver (genetic and vitiligo) and my nails are clear, hard and healthy!

I am 6 months post transplant and have had severe hair loss since transplant. I am taking biotin every day and a ‘just in case it works’ shampoo I saw online. The transplant nurse told me that it may be a year before I stop losing my hair. I do lately see a small improvement in that I am losing less when I shampoo but no new growth yet.

Take a biotin supplement. It helps to give you healthy hair and nails. It worked for me.

@jtjourney, from my experience, I have lost hair each time I have had a "stressful" event on my body. After I sent a month in the hospital after I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, after my stroke and after my transplant. I say all this that I believe the hair loss is because for a matter of time your body was in survival mode. Meaning it used all it's energy to keep you alive. In order of priority, hair cells are one of the last. I did however lose the most hair after my transplant. I even bought a chemo hat because I feared it was going to get that bad. Before transplant I had long thick hair. At about a year out, it was extremely thin so I cut it really short which helped a little. Now being a year and a half out, I have TONS of new growth everywhere, which I am very grateful for. My hair texture has changed but as least it is coming back. Believe me I know what you're feeling. I was definitely there. I believe once your body regulates new grow will start to appear. I hardly lose any on the shower now. Where in the hospital and for a little less than 1 year, I was losing a handful at a time.
At one point we were wondering if it was from the Tacromilus but the doctors looked of the percentage of people that experience hair loss to do Tacrolimus and it was only 1%. So once again, I believe it is from the stress that your body endured through the transplant process. So once it regulates, you should see new growth. Hope that helps! I attached a photo of the hair I lost after a shower.
