Husband recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma and had no symptoms
My husband was recently diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma. We were referred to Mayo and have our first appointment in a week. What I don't understand is why blood tests taken the end of Sept were all normal range. Lesion was found on the liver by accident otherwise no symptoms. They say it's about 8cm which is quite large. We don't know what to expect and it's scaring me. I'm assuming the size would mean it's more advanced. Can anyone share their experience if it's similar?

I will definitely do that. Hopefully the process speeds up and you get chemo started soon. Thinking of you both ❤️
Hi, I have more time to think over the weekend so I have a few more questions. First I hope your husband is doing well and tolerating the chemo. How many rounds did they say he needed? Did you get assigned a "nurse/patient navigator"? It would be nice to have someone to contact for some simple questions. The other question I have is in reading up on when a person has chemo, you need to be very cautious. You need to wear gloves when cleaning up after the patient, their laundry needs to be done separate. Are these correct? Do you have to handle things differently? Thanks again for your help and I hope your husband is feeling good and staying strong (and you as well). Prayers to you.
Hi! We were told to put the seat down before flushing and flush twice after using the restroom. We have a nurse that we communicate with that is wonderful. She answers all of our questions in a very timely fashion. We weren’t instructed to wear gloves or wash clothes separately. He is tolerating the chemo well. No real side affects yet. He will do 4 cycles of chemo and then a CT scan to see if there was any regression. When does your husband start chemo?
We have no idea when chemo starts but should find out on Feb 6 when we meet the oncologist. We do see on his patient portal that he has another appointment for a "interventional radiology vascular procedure". Not sure.what that is but hoping it's where they put in a port. So needless to say, we have at least a few more weeks of this waiting. When you mentioned your husbands treatments earlier you said he has 2 weeks on then 1 off. Is that considered 1 cycle? Is he on his week off this week? I hope he continues to do well with the treatments and I pray you continue to be strong for him. 🙏🙏
Yes the interventional appt should be for his port. This part Thursday was his second infusion. No treatment next Thurs then new cycle starts feb 6th. He’s gets his stick out from his port insertion this coming weds. That was a minor procedure and he did well with that also. The premedication that they give him to contract nausea gives him the hiccups so he needed to take a muscle relaxer to stop them. That was a weird side effect but better than nausea. I send a request to the Mayo Clinic to review my husbands case also. The more yes on it the better. I hope chemo can start soon for your husband. I know the waiting is horrible. I pray all goes smoothing in this process for him. This is life changing and we are still in disbelief that this happened to him with no preexisting reason. We got our genetic testing back which was good but we are still waiting for the test of the genome testing to be completed
I’m sorry that I didn’t edit my post before. That should say stitch, and to counteract nausea. And smoothly.
I could read your post no problem. Although I wasn't sure about the stick in the port. Stitch makes more sense. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope things continue to go well for your husband. I will keep you posted on our adventure(s).
Take care and God bless.
Keep me posted on what type of chemo that they decide on for your husband. I think after the genome testing we will be a little more knowledgeable about what my husbands mutations are. Good luck and god bless also
Just checking in to see how your husband is doing? Did he have chemo this last week? We are counting down the days until Thursday when we will hopefully know more and have a plan for chemo going forward. I continue to pray for you and your husband.
I was just thinking about you! This week was his week off starting again on Thurs hopefully his bloodwork will stay strong so we can move forward. He having pain which is being managed with medication but it’s hard on his stomach. Otherwise okay so far. I hope they can start chemo soon for your husband. Is he in any discomfort at all?
