Has anyone had their GFR drop 20 points in less than year?
In January 2024 my GFR went from 53 to 43. It dropped another 11 points between May and August. My Albumin/ Creatine Ratio is 1500. My nephrologist seems totally unconcerned. I am scared. I also have MGUS. Does anyone have these kind of numbers? What did your Doctor say?

Do you know the culprit? Mine’s been high for many years so trying to figure it out. I had a colonoscopy a couple of days before the blood test, so…..idk.
How often do you test?
yes high blood pressure since 19 years old. I'm now 72.
I test every 3 months.
@celia16 the eGFR is affected by hydration and dietary things so I would suppose that the requirements of the preparation pre-colonoscopy could have an effect. How did the colonoscopy go? I hope all is well.
@robtemery what is BPH? (I have trouble with acronyms).
I have since been diagnosed with AL Amyloidosis. Kappa Light Chain restricted. I am receiving treatment which is helping somewhat.
@hbrennan93 sorry to hear about your Lupus Nephritis. That can definitely be a factor in kidney problems. Do you have a nephrologist that can collaborate with your rheumatologist regarding your kidney care?
I am interested in you GFR numbers. I’ve never heard of such high numbers. I always thought the range went from zero (no function at all and total failure) to 100 (absolute perfection and nearly unheard of). I thought the eGFR is a percentage of kidney function. Are you referring to a different kidney function test?
@glenc why was your kidney removed if you don’t mind me asking?
@renegade71 welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Hope you have good results from your lab appointment 3/25.
@celia16 I read your post about whether having a colonoscopy could affect your eGFR.
In your response to @renegade71 you said “mine’s been high for many years…..” Are you talking about eGFR or perhaps blood pressure? You want your eGFR to be high, but not your blood pressure. I’m confused.
