Started Repatha - Side Effects
I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

I had flu like symptoms for about 2 months on Repatha. It got better when I increased the Coenzyme Q10 supplement I take. I am not sure I can suggest this here…but it works for me, and good for the heart and muscles. I believe even Cleveland Clinic suggests it for heart patients…it is naturally occurring in the body but decreases in production as we age.
Wishing all the best, Thea
I tried CoQ10. My doctor was against that (he is against all OTCs, I think.). I had side effects from that, too. I think I am a person that gets side effects from everything! Bad side effects. Side effects that make me an invalid, bed bound.
After my doctor said that if I can’t take statins and Repatha that “he had nothing else for me,” I put myself on Beta-Sitosyerol and will check my levels in about 6 months. Honestly, I have side effects on that, but not as severe as statins and Repatha, it’s tolerable.
I've done more than one stage 3 drug trial, so let me explain how the listed symptoms work: if you are in a drug trial, anything you say has to be reported, and there's no checking if they are related or not. For example, if you were on the Repatha trial and had intestinal gas one day and reported it, gas would show up forever has a possible complication.
So, as you see here, everyone reacts differently, and I would not worry so much about the long list of potential things and just see how your body reacts.
I wasn’t concerned about what the listed side effects are. I was concerned about what statins and Repatha do to me. I have been trying to take these drugs for over ten years. Different ones, different doses. I recently quit them all. The side effects are extreme for me. I have many friends that take these drugs without a problem. I wish I could, life would be so much easier. But, I cannot take them. They cause me extreme pain causing me to be bed bound.
Yesterday I was put on the second medication for severe GI side effects after starting Repatha. Currently prescribed an acid reducer and bile acid sequestrant. Growing concerned about the Repatha side effects and secondary medications/side effects. But with the huge drop in my cholesterol numbers, feel I must maintain the regimen until I can fully evaluate all the effects.
I realize that I am rolling the dice by quitting all of those drugs. I decided that quality of life meant more to me than quantity. My grandmother didn’t take anything and died in her sleep, in her home, without a caregiver at 98. I am focusing on eating organic clean fresh food and exercise, she did both of those things. She carried on a good conversation and kept up with the news. Make no mistake, I WOULD take the drugs if I could still feel good and stay active doing the many things I love to do, but that isn’t the case for me. I am going the natural route. I don’t think many people actually do that. Our food today is so full of toxins so that eating broccoli isn’t healthy unless it’s organic. If it’s not organic it is full of chemicals and pesticides that can’t be washed off, literally. I’m giving it a try.
I was reluctant to start taking Repatha due to the side effects. I injected my first pen yesterday. Only side effect as of now is the CRAZY pressure that feels like the worst bloating and pressure in my lower stomach / bladder area. It’s constant and extremely uncomfortable. Keeping me from sleeping. Does this subside, go away or get worse?
No one can tell you that. Some people have side effects, mine were different (fatigue, muscle and joint pain, extreme back pain). Some people have tolerable side effects, some people have to quit using it. Side effects go away or get better for some. For me they got worse. Only time will tell. However, I urge you to report your side effects to your doctor.
While relatively infrequent, I’ve had major GI issues, including severe pressure, that has not subsided in the four months I’ve been on Repatha. If you are committed to give Repatha a good trial (as I am), possibly see if you can see if the symptoms subside? Sending you good wishes!
Fully agree, discuss with your physician!
