Length of Time on Antibiotic Regimen

Posted by lorrie48 @lorrie48, Dec 14, 2024

I was wondering how long the people here have been or had been taking the Triple Cocktail. I'm also curious about the dosages you've been prescribed. I started with 1 azithromycin, 1 ethambutol, and 2 rifampin 3x/wk. Four months in, my pulmonologist prescribed 1-3-2 3x/wk. I expect the dosages to be increased again, since the coughing has increased, not decreased, since I started the meds six months ago. I'd really appreciate hearing about the success of others' treatments.

Hello Connie, its very challenging esp in the beginning. I have been on the three antibiotics since July 2024. MAC symptoms are greatly reduced but had a heck of a time with initial GI and Mood side effects of the meds. I take 1 azythromycin 250mg, 2 x 150 mg Rifabutin and 1200 mg of ethambutol daily. It seems your Dr is gradually inc the level of antibiotics you are on perhaps to reduce the side effects. the plan is to remain on them for one year, fingers crossed. good luck.

i am going into month 3 and so far little improvement, lots of coughing and phlegmy. The only side affect so far is feeling a bit foggy brain in the afternoon and do get extremely fatigued but am hopeful this will all eventually subside and I start to see improvement. My fingers crossed for all of us having to go through this, and hope one day can actually find a cure. I have always been a picture of health until this creeped into my life but finding ways to cope and having a strong support system helps.
i am glad I joined this forum and thankful for everyone as it does seem to help with questions or when you just need to reach out .... especially hearing "dont give up, it will get better"
