Does anyone else experience a burning chest with flare-up?
I have both moderate asthma and mild(ish?) Bronchiectasis. When I am fighting a flare up, I get additional mucus, fatigue, and a burning chest sensation. I don't know if this is more asthma or Bronchiectasis. My pulmonologist for BE automatically gives me prednisone with antibiotics in these cases but my asthma/allergy doctor has recently said she doesn't usually give prednisone with antibiotics automatically given the immune-suppressing aspect. I am not able to tell if the burning discomfort is more asthma or Bronchiectasis-related and wonder if others also experience this?

While agreeing that all of us respond differently to foods, I too would like to see a list of foods recommended for bronchiectasis and those to avoid. It would give us a starting place while being aware not all will work for everyone.
I avoid full fat dairy because those of us with bronchiectasis are at higher risk for heart disease and 5 out of 6 of my siblings have high cholesterol. (My lipid profile is ideal.) Greek yogurt seems to be available only on fat free of full fat. I use the fat free combined with 2% cottage cheese daily, since I also have osteoporosis. I don't notice that dairy increases mucus for me but remain uncertain.
If anyone has a link to the list, I would be grateful.
I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis in April '23, my major symptoms being mild dyspnea and hemoptysis. I have since had 2 flareups, quite obvious because of recurrent hemoptysis. In hindsight I realized I had also noticed a return of the dyspnea along with a mild burning sensation in my lungs. (I do not have asthma.) Now I am always watchful for both of those warning signs. If I notice either one I ramp up my airway clearance routine, use my Aerobika an extra time during the day, take more time for my huff cough and postural drainage routines and increase the intensity of my exercise.
Hi Scoop
I myself follow the guidelines for foods to avoid with either Acid Reflux/Hiatal Hernia in consideration of what NJH believes to be a possible cause of, or that goes along with, Bronchiectasis, the Acid Reflux. My understanding is that part of the foods "they" say one should avoid for Bronchiectasis, sugary foods, fats, heavy salty foods are on the list for Acid Reflux.
I agree with you scoop, and with many on this site that have stated....trial and error....and as well common sense, personal choice.
So for me I do Greek yogurt. Sometimes full fat other times low fat. As we know dairy in some cases would be considered a no no if we relate it to a list to foods to avoid with mucus.
I also do salted nuts and seeds on a limited basis since I drink much water and liquid during the day. So yes, "each person's mileage may vary...in so many ways.
Thanks, always for sharing. You have done right by yourself and that is a big help also to us to hear your story.

Hi
I have chest pain almost on a daily basis. The chest pain was one of the factors that led to my Bronchiectasis diagnosis. I do have GERD however, the chest pain that I experience is nothing like any GERD pain that I had prior to the Bronchiectasis diagnosis. I've read many articles that state that chest pain is common with this lung disease. I experience anything from shooting pain to burning in my lungs. I don't know know if this helps, but I personally believe it is one of the symptoms of having inflamed lungs with Bronchiectasis.
