Do opioids help with your chronic pain? - Successfully?

Posted by creyn51 @creyn51, Jan 5 11:25am

I used Opioids Post Surgery after my surgeries failed - successfully for 3 months. CRPS had set in both feet. Immediately after prescribing my third prescription for Opioids, my Surgeon pronounced me cured and discontinued any further care. December of 2016 was the last time I received a narcotic for my Pain. Just when I needed them the Most, I was Banned from any further Successful Pain Medication as Every New Pain Clinic told me that Opioids do Not Work for CRPS.
At a time when they are needed the most I have been Red Flagged as a Criminal Medicine Seeker and heard every excuse that Opioids do Not Work, and, are Not acceptable for long term use of over 3-6 months. Not even a Trial. I am unable to use NSAIDS. Gabapentin and Lyrica do not work and had too many side effects,
My research showed that Opioids should be used immediately if Nothing Else Works as TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE in treating CRPS. DO Opioids work on Your Pain? Do No Harm _ Do Nothing...

I'm so sorry that you have this horrible experience. I don't have CRPS but I have something no Dr seems to be able to help with, they keep saying it's nerve damage, and the only thing that has helped is Opiods. Like you, they won't refill it. I may go back to trying Med Marijuana tinture.

Do you have a clinic called Olympia Neurologal Institute anywhere near you? They treat patients like HUMANS (not cattle or a number) and first of the year automatically send in pre authorization for pain meds to insurance companies so meds get approved when you fill them. And their people actually CALL. They don’t play the “fax and wait” game.
If you can find one near you, even if you have a drive a little, they fill meds every 28 days. And they advocate for their clients. They were a godsend.

What part of the country is that in/are you in ? Will they prescribe Oxycodone ? That has helped me but the surgeon's office won't refill it and I can't find another place yet to get it. Too tired to do all this research because I only sleep a few hours a night.

I feel your Pain. Good Luck and God Bless You.

My CRPS came from surgeries to repair Nerve Damage. Surgeries failed and gave me CRPS Type 2 and then the Indiana Medical Community and the Mental Health Community failed me as well. Indiana has no Medical Marijuana so my body is failing me now. God Bless You and your Family.

By the way, oxycodone doesn't work as well. After reading the above, I thought about trying it and not having the same experience although it is supposed to be the same med only stronger.

Norco is acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Oxycodone is a different opiate drug. Sometimes it is prescribed with acetaminophen in it too. Hydrocodone gives me a sick headache. So I take oxycodone that works for me. I sometimes take acetaminophen between oxycodone doses on the days my pain is a bit more. I cannot take NSAIDs .. and some other medications. People are different from one another in what works for them.

Be sure to take several strong anti-constipation products if you must take pain meds.
Sometimes the side effect of pain meds. are worse than the relief they bring.
But we all know this, don't we?

I have CRPS also and I use THC gummies. I am off ALL opioids except for my Fentanyl Patches. They have to say RSO on the front. NOT Rick Simpson Oil. These are meant for pain control and working for me. Two companies that make them Verano and Encore. Please try them. Gentle Hugs

Good for you. Fentanyl is an Approved medication for CRPS. I've tried Gummies but none have made any difference in the pain in my feet. Thank you very much for you contribution to my post. God Bless you.

My new doctor took my pain meds away. Yes they do help tremendously. However she doesn't believe in taking them. She thinks I'm a manipulator since I have so many problems. I have fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease and she said she had it worse than me and ignored the fact my neck pops 24/7. Now I'm barely able to work. She has totally wrecked my life. She decided to take my 3 dose a day xanax and put me on klonopin once a day. My anxiety is off the charts. Now she has moved on and I now have to try the 3rd new doctor. I pray he believes me but I have a month to worry about it and still my meds aren't being called in correctly and I doubt they will be.

Try a pain management specialist. Find a new doctor and see if he/she will refer you to one. They prescribe my meds for me and yes, meds do help take the edge off the pain. Your anxiety is coming from the issue of being in pain and not getting relief. I am on numerous pain medications, an anti -anxiety/depression medication, anti- inflammatory and anti-muscle spasm medication, B12, Magnesium and a GERD medication. I still suffer from the pain but not as severe.

When Pain Management Specialists Say No, when Doctors say No, when you travel hundreds of miles for no help, when you pays hundreds of dollars in co-payments as you walk out the door - anger and frustration builds and gives you pain gains and flare ups. CRPS GIVES you Anxiety, DEPRESSION and PTSD, while each one Escalates Pain in a Comorbidity Loop. Not to mention Insomnia which No Physician or Psychiatrist will treat because the PAIN is causing the Insomnia. This leads to more PAIN>SO many different Meds tried - So many detrimental Side Effects just making my life worse. From Day 1 never had an Opioid trialed by these many Medical Experts who know NOTHING about CRPS Type 2. So no I am in END STAGE 4 CRPS after 8 years. I am very pleased to hear that you are experiencing some relief and I understand that you have gone through a lot in you quest for Pain Relief. Good Luck in the future but please understand that many Pain Patients are treated like crazy criminals, including me. We are just trying to experience some Quality Of Life and rejoin the Human Race. Pain HURTS, do not give up hope that scientist will find an answer to give Pain Patients a medication that works without side effects and addiction. Pain Patients are NOT RESPONSIBLE for the War on Opioids. We are suffering from Friendly fire...Here is a photo of my last fall just a month ago which also produced my twelfth concussion. An athlete until 58, I am a Pain Warrior with lots of pain and Doctor experience. Thank you to all the Real Physicians, Psychiatrists and Psychologists, friends and family who have helped me throughout my life and career. Thank you to the women in my life who helped me to be the BEST that I can Be. Love Craig
