Any suggestions for expelling tenacioius mucus plugs?
Despite drinking lots of fluids (mostly water) and using 7% saline in my Aerobica twice a day, my CT scans consistently show mucus plugs deep in my lungs. Maybe it's because I live in such a dry climate (southern AZ) but I have a difficult time getting phlegm up. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

This is what I have been doing for myself and do believe it is helping.
You may already know or do some of what I will post here but just in case you don't or haven't tried these, I will explain what I do for myself.
I have had improvement per the C Scan in the upper lung area with less inflammation. I apparently need to work harder in the lower lung area...a new showing.
I wear an N95 Mask out all the time in public and have found that with breathing in my own air/moisture, I believe that is what is doing it, I more often than not have to clear out what has apparently come up from my lungs immediately after removing the mask before getting back into the car. Sometimes I wear it for a short time while I exercise before doing airway clearance methods.
I boil water in the morning, I prefer that to a humidifier for sanitary reasons, and believe the moisture that it puts in the house has also helped. I prefer to keep the lid on the pot until the water has boiled for 15 minutes.
I live in a cold winter climate and keep my heat lower in the house, for me 67 degrees, and layer myself with clothing items if I get cold in that temperature. Forced air heating of the house draws out moisture so keeping the temperature low helps keep some moisture in the house.
In the summer with the heat I keep the temperature high, 79 degrees. Air conditioning draws out moisture from the house. Summer dress code for me is the opposite of winter.
Should others who read this have any thoughts, good or bad, or suggestions about what I am doing please let me, us, know your thoughts, all is appreciated.

Good, useful suggestions, Barbara. I'll try some of your techniques for indoor air humidification. I also like the idea of wearing an N95 while outside, which I've been doing when inside if people are present (basically for protection against cold, flu, etc).
Thanks!
I use an Afflo Vest daily just before I use the 7% Saline Solution. Sometimes I use it twice per day, especially when I’m sick. It really makes a difference.
I use distilled water rather than tap water because some of the bacteria that causes MAC can be found in tap water.
I’ve recently restarted using my Afflow Vest on the lowest settings to avoid rib pain, which I experienced on higher settings. When you say it really makes a difference would it be possible to elaborate on that?
I, too, live in So Arizona and have the same problem. I drink close to 80 ounces of water a day and I'm still a non-productive cougher. I'll be interested to hear how others deal with this.
I have a percussion vest which I tried to use once a day but cracked a rib (I have osteoporosis, which is supposedly a contraindication for using a vest). My NJH doc suggested using a Volara device, which I know nothing about. Anybody heard of it or have used one?
Thanks for your thoughts and I would understand your concerns about the cold tap water.
My understanding, per the microbiologist Dr. Falkinham, it is best also to boil the distilled water, or even spring water, because we can't always be sure it is free of bacteria. The cold tap water side, being that the water is not heated via the hot water tank etc. etc. doesn't have much, bacteria in it. However boiling it, cold tap water, to near to 200 degrees will kill any bacteria in it or any other water....distilled, purified, spring water and cold tap water. I boil all waters.

The Volara is made by Baxter who also makes the vest that NJH also recommends....by Hill Rom/Baxter. I would imagine there is information on it on line.???

I failed to mention that it is always best to boil all water, cold tap water, distilled water, purified water, spring water to reach or near to or better 200 degrees temperature to kill bacteria. We don't really know for sure if any of the water is free of bacteria.
You may already know this but just in case I wanted to be more specific.
