What are your recommendations for travel nebulizer?

Posted by terryb1 @128128terry11t, Aug 22, 2017

A few months ago there were some emails about what to take and do when traveling. Someone from the NYC support group recommended the PariTrekS portable nebulizer. I ordered it from Just Nebulizers. When I ordered this I inquired at Just Nebulizers if this could be used with an aerobika. They referred me to Pari and its spokesperson could not definitively endorse their product with an aerobika. I got the same sense that Katherine always got that they didn't want to recommend a competitor nor endorse something for fear of liability. In any case, it can operate as an efficient nebulizer with a small compressor for travel. I ordered mine with a battery. The battery (not really needed) came defective and neither Just Nebulizers or Pari would give me a refund. Pari will be sending a replacement but as mentioned, battery is really not necessary. Hope this is helpful for the travelers on our forum. Terry

Does anyone use a portable nebulizer? I am just starting the process and am planning to travel soon. I would be interested if you had success and with which portable nebulizer.

Hi prispal. You can use a Life Straw water bottle for washing and rinsing, and those individually wrapped 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes will work for sterilizing. We were recently in the British Isles and could not get either hydrogen peroxide or 70% isopropyl alcohol over the counter; one pharmacist told us we had to mail order! This surprised me as we had easily bought a bottle of hydrogen peroxide in Paris two years ago. We ended up getting a handful of the wipes from our ship's medical officer and they worked well enough until we got home and I sterilized everything in the microwave steam bag. Have a wonderful trip!

I’m taking a trip and wanted to know how to transport my nebulizer. Are we allowed to take it on the airplane as a medical device, like the CPAP machine or do we pack it in our suitcase as checked baggage. Are their specific travel nebulizers or do we just take the one we have?
Thanks!

Yes, you can take it on the plane as a carry on. I put all my medical devices and pills in a small carry on and attached a medical tag. It was not even questioned at the airport. I did purchase the DeVilbiss Traveler compressor because it was smaller and lighter than the one I was using.

@lorrainewenn, I think you'll appreciate the comments and tips shared by many members like @scoop @128128terry11t @irenea8 @lilianna @abram797 @jcwest211 and many others in this discussion to which I moved your question about taking the nebulizer as carry on versus checked luggage.

I'm in a terrible way because I can't find a hand held portable Nebulizer. Right now I use the Salter AIRE Elite, but it's not portable, Can anyone recommend a portable nebulizer so I can breathe again? I'm sorry if my post sounds desperate, it's because I am. I need something that's portable and handheld. I use albuterol now in the Salter AIRE Elite. Please any recommendations will be appreciated immensely. Thank you very much for recommending a small handheld portable machine.

I bought pari trek S with a battery. You can buy it without a battery and then it’s much cheaper. It’s small, light and pretty strong- I use it AC plugged when I don’t have time to nebulize at home. You have also a car plug in. Please check online- I bought it at Justnebulizers- reliable company. I think I paid with the battery around $160. You can check it’s perimeters- weight, size, particle size etc. on the just nebulizers website. Good luck with your choice. I am happy with it and find it handy

If you are speaking about the handheld nebulizers that use an impeller and mesh to produce droplets instead of a compressor with tubing, the reliable hand-held ones meant for every day use are pricy. The cheaper ones on Amazon are extremely variable as to how they hold up to daily use, how long they last before they leak, and how they can be sterilized.

Can you tell us more about how you use your nebulizer? Is it possible to neb at home and carry an inhaler for use while you are out and about? Are you dealing with Bronchiectasis or a different lung problem?
