MRI with Contrast (Gadolinium)

Posted by topsz @topsz, Dec 11 10:39am

Has anyone had adverse reaction to MRI with Contrast (Gadolinium)? I would prefer not having contest on my first MRI, but Dr said I have to have it. Is this acceptable or should I get another opinion?

I am really nervous about gadolinium too. I react to everything and also have kidney disease. I am going to ask, in the middle of my MRI and before it is injected, whether the image without contrast is good enough. I may also ask if I could have a very low dose. I still reserve the right to decline. Contemporary MRI's are pretty strong and can catch a lot, and the radiologist may just have to look harder!

I am basically allergic to everything, but the only effect of the need of the contrast was mental. I was uncomfortable for the first time and apprehensive. Other than that no problems. I believe the same dye was used in my multiple spine injections.

I guess the point would be how many times is it safe to inject contrast before your body retains it? Like multiple mammograms, how much radiation is safe?

I had my first MRI with contrast (Gadolinium). It made me feel warm in my body parts but I like the warm so I was not feeling bad about that. The good is that they not only found out my obstructive Hypertrophic Cardiomiopathy (HOCM) but also my gallbladder was in horrible shape almost fully obstructed and needed to be removed right away before it got infected. The time I was warm during the MRI was very short only maybe a minute or so but it was worth for it saved my life from complications of infected gallbladder plus the HOCM septum diameter was 2.2 cm (almost ONE INCH!!!) that had me with ongoing chest pain so now the Camzyos 5 mg reduced the Septum diameter to only 1.2 cm in only 8 weeks. I no longer have angina or chest pain and my removed gallbladder forces me to eat healthy and less so I lost 20 pounds in only 2 months. I am happy I did the MRI with contrast since I have no kidney problems or any other risk associated with the Gadolinium.

Looks like it is not yet available for humans @topsz.

I request “Eovist” to be ordered as contrast that improves the resolution for Radiologist reading films. You might discuss this with your Nepholigist or Dr ordering scan.

I will. Appreciate that info!!

Eovist is used with caution with kidney disease, just like gadolineum. Wish they would hurry up and come up with something new!
