Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect
Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

I have heard so many medical professionals say that opiates don't work for fibro pain. I can only speak for myself, but that is hog wash! Oxycodone is the only thing that brings me relief. I take 800mg of Gabapentin 3 times a day. I've also taken tramadol and flexerol. It has been suggested that I take Excedrin, wait two hours, then take naproxen. I don't really care what is typical. I know what works for me. I took it for years, 4 pills a day, and never became addicted. I have an extraordinarily high tolerance, so maybe that is the reason. Once I moved to the Ohio Valley, where there is an opiate addiction epidemic, they tend to treat everyone as if they are just seeking drugs. I'm going to try one more pain center, then it's time to find a new doctor.
Even Doctors admit medicine is not black and white. What works for you or each of us, individually is the goal and your carer should understand this. Its cruel to make you feel bad for wanting to reduce pain.
I take 300 mg of Gabapentin nightly and sometimes afternoon on bad days. When I do that I can't stuff enough food in towards evening, reassuring to hear others have the issue.
I think that's a great idea but It depends on where you live. Im in NY and under pain management. Marijuana in my system is an automatic dismissal from pain management.
I feel for you. I've been told I have fibromyalgia also. I find that diet helps sometimes. I do my best to avoid sugar. When I eat candy or sweets of any kind I suffer.
Try taking magnesium. I find it helps a bunch.
Best of luck.
Hi Sandy, I was just reading through the comments on pain and fibro.. Anyone that has real cronic pain knows that we don't even get close to feeling high on pain meds. With this big push on getting everyone off pain pills "carte blanche" is not fair. I'm still getting pain pills because of my spine surgeries (one more to go). However, my doctor is dying to stop prescribing them. Then what? The same people that convinced me to take 4 pills a day instead of "as needed' now just wants me to just stop. Even though I don't think I can make it without any help from pain meds. Every time I try to ask how to get help to get off the pills, they just blow me off. Mostly, they say just stop. What kind of professionals say that. If it was so easy there would not be so many non-sick people trying to do anything to get their hands on them. At my age and all the complications I have, I should be allowed to have some relief. Or any age for that matter. I don't know who to turn to..
