Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.
hugz,

good morning! thank you for the tips. I really appreciate it. I haven't tried a massager. it hurts too much when my husband tries to give me a back rub, but I will go to a store and try it and see if that helps. I shop on Amazon a lot, but I have to watch my 'cart' because I'm over $50 before you can blink! lmbo! I've tried to sign up for clinical trials 4 times now and they always turn me down, either because of my different diagnoses &/or my medications. I do want to try that massager, though, and get another heating pad. that also helped some in the past but mine broke. Enjoy your day!
prayers out to you...

that sounds like a great idea! I can sew easy things by hand, like hemming pants & tears, so this is definitely my speed! lol! I like the idea of putting scented oil on it too. Thank you for the great tip!! I hope you have a terrific Tuesday!

I have been on Savella aka milnacipran and that helped. Now I am on Cymbalta and that helps a good deal. Otherwise, you sound much like me. I have chronic neck pain added to my story but only get 1 or 2 Vicodin per day but not even a whole months supply--I'm no addict, we have military (retired) insurance and the military health care is trying to paint spouses and retirees as opioid dependent.

I don't think I've heard of Savella or milnacipran. I'm going to ask my doctor about that. I wish I could take Cymbalta but it caused the inside of my throat to swell bad. Lyrica too. I've had over 30 meds cause swelling, usually in my legs and feet. I also have neck and shoulder pain from a car accident, but the lower back pain is pretty much constant and the pain is very sharp. my hydrocodone 4X a day helps some with my other pains but not my lower back. I really agree with you about health care and pain meds. the government has cracked down a lot due to drug addicts and people selling the meds too, making it even harder for we in major pain to get it. I was on 5 a day but my doctor lowered it. thank you so much for sharing, sandytoes14.

I tried a diet plan that a doctor wrote and for me it worked. It had something to do with not eating anything from the night shade families such as anything with tomatoes, potatoes, etc. You do have to follow it exactly but it is worth it plus you can lose some unwanted inches as well.

I'm very intrigued by this. I have never heard of night shade family foods. I will look for it online for sure. thank you and I hope you have a great day!

The answer may be, Daaa? My muscles (thigh, calf) have burning pain and weakness when I walk for more than a minute or so. I"ve been checked for PAD, no problem. Spine does not have significant stenosis. Are these symptoms part of fiber?

HI @clownscrytoo. I am sorry you are suffering with a terrible case of fibro. My Mom had a bad case before it was an official "diagnosis" in the medical literature. She visited Mayo (Rochester) in the later 1970's and was diagnosed with Fibro. She took small doses of Elavil (10mg) daily for years, which helped her tremendously. She was also told to avoid foods in the nightshade family, which helped. They also recommended weight loss--a diet with lots of veggies, lean proteins including dried beans (lots of complex fiber) helped her the most.

She has learned that a firm seat is much better for her than a soft, cushy seat. She made a wedge-shaped cushion that is VERY firm to use in the car and when out of the house. She also feels that her pain is much reduced when her sleep is better quality. When her fibro flares, she can only lie down or stand (not sit). I pray that a cure will be found, and that you will experience many more "good" days ahead.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia almost 20 years ago. Nothing I have tried has helped the constant pain. My doctor will only give me Fioricet without codeine. I also have postherpetic neuralgia after a bad case of shingles 3 years ago. Every night I take a Fioricet, 3 Tylenol PMs and a small glass (or 2) of brandy to help me sleep. I know I'm headed down a bad road cuz my husband tells me my respirations are very slow and shallow while sleeping (about 10-12/min) and it's very hard to wake up in the am. But I feel so desperate to escape the pain for a few hours that I'm willing to take chances. i'm too chicken to go out and get some of the good stuff on the streets!

@swamma08 , I have to agree with your husband. You are headed down a dangerous road. My first concern is that you are taking 3 thing that are slowing your breathing and heart rate. You can die of an accidental overdose. Please stop taking this combo and get help immediately. You are also on a good deal of acetaminophen (Tylenol) which can cause liver damage.
Can you tell us what other medicines and therapies you have tried for fibromyalgia?
Please be safe
