Reversal of Nissen Fundoplication

I hope he is right. I was instructed a week ago to go back on my maximum dose of 30 mg prevacid x2 /day as well as 1000 mg of sulcrafate x4 /day. So far it doesn't seem to work very well. For example , my 65th birthday was yesterday. and i had 2 small pieces of cake with my ensure. I also earlier in the day took 1 15 mg of mobic (NSAID) for my head neck back and other RA pain. I got severe heartburn from 1 pm onward into the night. Again Why? My wrap was told to be very good, but I had 2 follow up dilations. Where is the heartburn coming from. It's been 121 days since the Fundo and hiatal hernia. Good luck with your new surgery and let me know how it works for you. By the way eating a n iced cake is very trickey and one must chew bery well as wash it down with lactaid milk ( I'm lactose intolerant)........kozlo52

has anyone out there had a360 degree nissen fundoplication and then began developing oral thrush on their tongue and possibly throat? I've been battling oral thrush for 10 months since my operation and alll i am being given is nystatin for swish swallow and spit. This stuff is terrible to swallow. I'm still battling what i feel is heartburn after eating. The original thoracic surgeon wants me to have another 48 hr bravo test. The esophagael monometry test done after the surgery indicates that the wrap may still be too tight. I cannot make the link between the wrap being too tight and the heartburn sensation, which the surgeons don't seem to explain well. Antacids don't seem to help. Any insights would be helpful....kozlo52

I've not had your surgery, but I've had a problem with thrush of the throat and mouth recently. My ENT physician said to increase my water intake to 64-80 oz. a day and I should not have to worry about recurrence of thrush. I think this is good advice so am letting you know as drinking more may help your recurring thrush. I agree the Nystatin is pretty tough to swallow. It does provide relief of symptoms so I really appreciate it. Gail B. Ledesma

Thank ypu for your advice. I'm on 4 mg prednisone for my rheumatoid arthritis and as long as i take any starch or sugar the thrush will form on the tongue. A quickie fix is to take about 20% hydrogen proxide and 80 % water and shake well in a bottle. Then take a paper towel wetted with this mix and scrub the surface of the tongue to get rid of the thrush. Then take a dry paper towel and dry the tongue. Then you will see the thrush rubbed off the tongue. But the back part of the tongue you don't know. If you try to gargle with this mix it will burn your throat. Thrush is a fungus. Are you on any steroid that might be causing this?... thanks....kozlo52

I have just had it done. 8weeks ago. Still a bit of trouble swallowing but wondering if you suffered any Diarrhea symptoms at all?

Yes I did. Be careful also what you eat. Gassy foods made me miserable because I couldn't burp or belch. Kathy

How long did the diarrhea last?

Not to long after I started eating foods again. I do occasionally suffer from IBS, think it goes along with having idiopathic gastroparesis.

I've been in hospital for a week, because I have other symtoms and they couldn't find anything wrong after lots of tests I've been told its Been a virus. However have come home and still have very loose motions. Time will tell. But I certainly wasn't warned about and potential change in bowel habits. Did you have this Happen straight after surgery or did it follow later
