... Fortunately, the preliminary
data of the current phase 1/2 trial are
promising. Further optimization of the
cell transplantation therapy among pa-
tients with bronchiectasis needs to be
explored in phase 3 clinical trials. Cellular
regenerative therapy has now come into
reality as a better cure for debilitating
airway diseases such as bronchiectasis.

Highlights
Autologous P63+progenitor cell transplantation is well tolerated
Cell therapy improves lung function in patients with bronchiectasis
Cell therapy shows reuctions in lung damage and improvements in quality of life
Higher P63 expression correlates with better therapeutic outcomes

could the reason why this stem cell therapy is rarely mentioned by European,American experts
just be , because it's from China ?

I found an article from 2018 :
https://bronchiectasisnewstoday.com/2018/02/15/stem-cell-transplants-rejuvenate-bronchiectasis-lungs/
https://bronchiectasisnewstoday.com/ seems to have stopped updating in 2021

Boston University has an article from 2023:
https://www.bu.edu/articles/2023/stem-cell-therapy-lung-health-and-disease/
(just because a Boston researcher is involved ?! no mentioning of the
Shanghai studies)
It's mentioned in the 15 reader comments, though ... blaming the slow US-medical system

there were some threads and posts here in 2018 and two posts in an unrelated thread on Nov.1 2024

Pretty amazing. Hope we see this in our lifetime!

ahh, looking at it in detail, this looks not convincing to me.
They measured lots of parameters 4,12,24 weeks and then
just picked the best ones for the summary, while omitting
the others.
When I just look at the values after 24 weeks in tables S6,S7 pages 26,28
then I do not see the claimed improvement in DLCO,SGRQ,BSI,FACED

I showed the article to my husband who is a scientist. He says this is a very well-respected journal and he had read about this research in its preliminary stages and thought it was hopeful.

The first line of the article says "Bronchiectasis is a common chronic respiratory disease". I was told that it was a rare disease and that was why it took so long for people to be diagnosed. I believe these support groups are helping to bring attention to how widespread this condition really is.

@brittany123 Great to know article passes muster with a scientist! This is something I have wondered about as science has been working on regenerating or engineering new tissues and/or organs. Why not for inside the lung?!

My understanding is that bronchiectasis is not considered rare but rather uncommon. Common respiratory conditions are asthma and COPD. Bronchiectasis is getting diagnosed more because of improved imaging technology. I read that bronchiectasis affects 1 in 500 adults but as many here have experienced it often remains undiagnosed or misdiagnosed.

it can be estimated. They are checking e.g. CTs for cancer
and occasionally find bronchiectases.

It's also maybe more common in China where they have
problems with air-quality
