Brain MRI: Do findings possibly indicate small vessel brain disease?

Posted by sarah371 @sarah371, Jan 19, 2024

Hello,

My recent brain MRI indicates 'moderate likely small vessel ischemic changes and moderate hyperintense T2/Flair signal of the corona radiata bilaterally'.

Do these findings possibly indicate small vessel brain disease that may be similar to my previously diagnosed coronary microvascular disease?

Thank you.

I have diagnosed with microvascular brain disease. I feel lightheaded, balance is off and just feel weak. Does anyone out there have these symptoms also? I am 71 years old and it's freaking me out

I’m 70 and have the same. Although not weak. These changes are pretty normal for aging adults. Keith is correct.
Keep a watch and maybe get an MRI every two years.

I have made a comment before. I microvascular brain disease. I do not know if if the disease making me feel light headed, lethargic and no energy. My sleep is insomnia. Could all of this be from the disease? No Dr. or neurologist has given me an answer. I am a Type 2 diabetic and 71 years old.

@red79 Your symptoms must be affecting how you go about your life on a daily basis. What did the results of the MRI from last October show? I'd like to encourage you to talk with your primary care provider/GP about this since it sounds like the neurologist you saw last October hasn't followed up with you. It would be good if you and GP would come up with a plan for your next steps. A person diagnosed with cerebral (brain) small vessel disease needs to work with the physician on what is causing the disease and figure out what treatments are available so that the isn't a progression of the disease in the future. Will you call and make an appointment with your GP today?

@red79 You'll see the neurologist this Wednesday, November 27? That's good. And in answer to your other question about the frequency of an MRI? That's a question to ask your neurologist. I know of friends who have had an MRI with that frequency. It also depends on whether your insurance will pay for the MRI. Also a good question to ask if your neurologist orders an MRI.

Will you come back here and let me know the results of your appointment?

I think so. I had one three years ago but will get another soon. You have to be a good advocate for yourself!

I am 71 years old and I have small microvascular brain disease. I had a cup of coffee and have become lightheaded after the cup. Also my vision is affected by the disease. My vision in dim lights is real bad. Also I get severe migrain headaches. I believe these symptoms are caused from the disease.

I had several MRI's within a 2 month period. 11 total.. 2 with 1 dr. 9 with another specialist at John Hopkins so I'd say yes.
