Valium (diazepam) Taper
Hello, I’m new here and I joined this particular website because it seems a bit more uplifting than some of the others. Anyway I took benzodiazepines as prescribed for 8 years. In July I switched to 30mg of Valium I’m now down to 10mg. I’ve got terrible agoraphobia and depression. I’m interested in seeing if anyone got any relief from starting an SSRI—I’ve asked my doctor for Celexa—during a taper? Many of the other websites are 100% anti medication. I’m not to that point I just need relief from some of the anxiety and depression I’m experiencing. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Which facility are you going to for tapering off. Would you say on this board. I really need to find a taper place for going 9ff Seroquel
How did your taper go?
Greetings!
It's rather expensive as it is taken by 1 gram caplets, but my Tryptophan works for me great against my major clinical depression.
It is a natural bodily amino acid, really not a drug, and works for some people for anxiety. Being natural, there's no overdosing or withdrawl possible. I had to wait three days recently for a refill of my prescription for it and was completely normal (of course but for a brief increase in depression). The main thing Tryptophan does is make Seretonin in the body.
Some are helped by it for anxiety, some for depression, all according to the individual's body.
Valium (Diazepam) is very strong so tough to taper off of. Yet has it's uses.
Are you cut by one pill per month? I was and it was rocky but livable.
Thank you!
Just FYI. Supposedly ketamine spray is not good for you. The medication is what they use in horses to tranquilize them, to calm them. Ask around. I actually took Ketamine iv drips for about 6 weeks and it didn’t do a thing for me. Also places like these do not take insurance, so you pay out of your pocket. Would be great if it works for you. TMS is also a great option.
Ok Seroquel is the worst to taper off. Please talk to your psychiatrist to help you. I took 300mg and we weened off of it for several weeks. That med.. gave me horrible nightmares. My family could hear me shouting “Help me” from another room. My sister takes it before bedtime and thinks it’s wonderful. I guess medicines affect people in different ways. Seriously though do not ever just go cold turkey to get off of any kind of medicine. Always, always tell your doctor what you’re doing and they will help you to taper off the correct way. Good luck.
I've been on and off depression and anxiety meds for the past 20 years. Nothing I've found has been a panacea. Currently, I take 50 mg of Clonazepam daily for anxiety. For me it's a double-edged sword - I have disturbing dreams most nights and it may even worsen my depression. The first time I got off Clonazepam I tapered over 6 mos. - dissolving the pill in water and using a dropper to measure the dose - reducing weekly. This worked well and I had no discernible withdrawal symptoms.
I'm reading the book - Radical Acceptance by Tara Brach - and have begun to meditate as a way to be present with my anxiety/depression. Although I've practiced regular yoga, yoga breathing and some meditation for many years, somehow this book has introduced me to a type of simple meditation (no rules) that brings me more equanimity and calm. I've been working with it for only a week now and while I continue to wake up with the same dread/panic I've known seemingly "forever," I find that through gently shifting toward radical acceptance I immediately feel some relief - a softening instead of a tightening in my body. My breath begins to ease as well. Then as I relax I sense a movement or flow of energy that actually feels good. Sometimes I sense a "breaking up" of the tight, compressed, heavy, all-consuming, stuck energies that I would name anxiety/depression - and again my breath relaxes and deepens. The book offers nurturing support and real life guidance for "suffering" caused by anxiety and depression.

1 ReactionI was prescribed and ingested 15 mg/day of Valium (diazepam) continuously over a 50 year period. It was discontinued abruptly 1-1/2 years ago and I still have the following withdrawal symptoms: extreme anxiety, intermittent confusion, body jerks, tremors, blurred vision, lose of taste (candle mouth), ringing in ears, etc. Is there anyway to relieve or mitigate these resultant conditions? I am desperate!

2 ReactionsI’m sorry you’re going through such suffering, I can’t understand why you were so abruptly taken off your meds after so many years and such a high dose…did you’re doctor retire without helping you to find another doctor or were you forced into a rapid withdrawal? It’s just a horrible thing to hear this and you are obviously very strong but still you deserve help, if you’re unable to find someone yourself then perhaps there’s people here that will be able to assist you with getting the well needed care that you deserve. I hope that your message will get other people on board to help you out, I wish you the very best of care and good health

5 ReactionsI’m so sorry this is happening to you! You absolutely deserve much better treatment than you are receiving. What city do you live in? I can probably find someone who can help you.
Let me know,
Mery

2 ReactionsI have been told it is downright dangerous to stop benzodiazepines abruptly. People even go into hospitals or rehabs for this. Some doctors will say "cut in half and then go off." They just don't seem to know much about this. A pharmacist would.
I would take months to get off 15mg. The hardest part is the last 5mg.
If you had just stopped I would have said check with your doctor about going back on and then tapering. After a year and a half I have no idea but your brain is still asking for it, it sounds like! Can you talk to a really good psychiatrist?
