Reclast Infusions: Side-effects & Recovery time
I just had a reclast infusion last week and have had serious side effects. I had the worst flue like aching for 5 days then my lefty arm became full of inflammation in the wrist, elbow and shoulder which caused extreme pain and I lost the ability to straighten my elbow. Ultrasound showed huge amounts of fluid throughout the arm. The right arm is now starting to have the same symptoms. The pain is excruciating. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Neither the ER doctor nor the Dr. who prescribed the procedure knew what to do to ease the symptoms. Both arms from fingertips to shoulder are swollen and neither elbow will straighten. Anyone else have adverse reactions to the reclast infusion? If yes, how long did it last?

Danny I just don’t understand the pain! Could there be another issue somewhere? Praying right now for relief! I understand pain and how it zaps you.
I do have Ankolosingspondalitis but that usually affects back and lower extremities! Waking up 5-6 times a night with my arms above my head and not able to move them without severe discomfort makes for very rough night; a rough next day as well, been like this since June! Hopefully exercises helps
I had a Reclast infusion for osteoporosis in July 2024 and had severe side effects! I had the most severe joint pain in my lower extremities. I ended in up the ER and while there, they found a subdural hematoma, which I think is related to the infusion,
I also had night sweats, excruciating cramps in my hands and feet and was so weak that I could not use my fingers and could not walk.
The physician who ordered the Reclast suggested that I drink lots of water to try to "rinse it out".
I would not wish this on my worst enemy!
It sounds like a terrible reaction. I have chosen not to take any of tge meds offered. The side effects would have severly altered my life. I have to be alert for my husband as I am the caregiver. I know for some will think this is not a great choice. But it is my choice. Thank you for letting me share.
My endocrinologist has set me up for a second infusion next June! I’ve been dealing with the side effects from my first infusion. There are nights I wake 6-7 times unable to move my upper limbs without severe pain. As the day goes on the pain lessons, only to return the following night. It is as though this happens when my limbs go into a relaxation mode and as the day goes by and I’m busy the pain subsides. I felt like I was injected by something that caused wicked inflammation! Good luck to all of us in our future endeavors! Stay healthy!
I received my Reclast infusion last Wednesday. I started with the typical flu like symptoms but they have progressed to isolated and severe muscle/connective tissue pain with generalized weakness. I am experiencing terrible muscle soreness and tenderness from typical movements I do daily. I ran errands Friday and by Saturday morning I had terrible pain on my anterior right shin (driving foot). I did light house cleaning yesterday and today I can't grip with my hand due to pain/weakness. I am a physical therapist and I'm nervous to handle my pediatric patients because I can't trust my strength and I'm afraid of the pain that might follow. Has anyone found treatment techniques to address these symptoms. I am hydrating religiously,
I have just started Reclast a week ago. Everything was going good, 3 days later my side effects started, nausea, body aches. Day 4 it was a little worse, now night sweats also. Day 5 was bad all day, aches, nausea fever. 7 pm that evening I got sore bones, joints, headache and during the night worst night sweats ever. Hardly any sleep from the bone pain, my neck is the worst. Woke up 5 am ready to go to ER, but I didn't thinking what can they really do for me. Pain is unbearable, called my clinic and haven't heard back yet, 3 hours later. I've been taking Tylenol arthritis thru it all, helps a little. This is a once a year infusion, I WILL NOT be doing this again. I'm a strong person and can tolerate pain but this I couldn't.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, gone thru 12 weeks of chemo, 20 days of radiation and still getting HER2 infusion till January. That was a walk in the park compared to the Reclast. Any helpful suggestions??

I have osteoporosis which was diagnosed in 2022. I cannot belive the side effects from the drugs that I am seeing. I am reluctant to even think about it. Please pass on anything that actually works. I would appreciate your comments. Hugs to you all dealing with this !
I was in the ER within 8 hours with the worst spine and back pain ever. Lasted 5 days. I take Prolia now with no side effects.
Absolutely the worst pain ever for me also
