Spotting Following Cortisone Injection

Posted by toromama @toromama, Feb 19, 2021

Anyone else experienced spotting following a cortisone injection? This is my second experience. Both times it started about 10 days after the injection. Just wondering how long it usually lasts. The first time was a number of years ago and I thought it only lasted a few hours. I'm now on Day 2. I'm 61 years old and went through menopause when I was 52.

I have a very similar story… 61 years old and steroid shots in hip - 2 times and each time had a period about 2 weeks post shot. Same response from US revealing small cysts. Ended up going with a full hyst this past March. Don’t want to go through the angst of possible cancer while waiting on results. Feeling great after. Haven’t had another hip steroid shot yet but don’t anticipate there being any issues going forward.

I am curious, how long did your bleeding last after the hip injections?
That is my concern. I could deal with 1 or 2 months, but not 6+ months of heavy periods and no warning of when they would start.
I'm glad to hear the hyst went well for you.

A couple weeks, each time; but my main concern was that no one could tel me why this was happening… ortho and gyno didn’t fee a correlation between shots and bleeding. Yet here on this platform we know IT’S HAPPENING over and over again. Personally I didn’t want to wonder every time I have a shot if it’s just the post-shot bleeding or if something else/something new occurring….. thus the hyst.

They weren’t really interested in pursuing anything else. They believe it was the shot. Also there are tons of studies that this happens to postmenuposal women! I presented the doctor with the studies. The orthopedic that gave the shot had never heard of bleeding before and I told him about the studies as well. Those shots present a lot of issues. It is artificial cortisol and there are also links to causing myelitis diabetes.

Hi , i am 76 years old and this is the 5th epidural injection shot i had . I have been getting them every 4-5 months and after everyone 16days later i would start bleeding .At first i thought it was like everyone else something must be wrong .So i had a D&C and they found out I had thinning of the uterus but no cancer so my gynecologist put me on low doses of estrogen cream .
The bleeding lasted a few days . However the second time i had the shot again same thing happened but the bleeding lasted longer so I asked my nurse practitioner and my gynecologist if it was possible the steroid shot could cause this .. they never heard of it but she said just to be on the safe side they upped my estrogen cream to double .
So I just had another shot 16 days ago same thing has happened just started bleeding again . So i have another call in to my gynecologist.. so like everyone else iam at a loss here as i need the shots !
