Anyone been prescribed Ohtuvayre (new med)? Your experience?

Has anyone been prescribed the new COPD medication by their treatment team....Ohtuvayre? Just wondering if it now active, how it is effecting patients and how well it does/doesn't work

Gm kfalda. My pulmonologist and I discussed the pros & cons of the ohtovayre & we decided to hold off on using it yet. Maybe down the road.

Btw I noticed that “ohtu” corresponded to O2 - coincidence- perhaps.

A wise physician I once worked with said he never starts his patients on new medication until 2 years have passed. It does make alot of sense to get the post-marketing data and feed back. I am currently on Dupixent that worked so well for about 6 months and its effect seems to be diminishing. If it wasn't for the congestion I would be fine as my resting O2 sats are in the mid-90's but the airway congestion is extremely bothersome regardless of a rigorous pulmonary toileting program. Just ready for some relief!

Gm Kdalada. I’d never heard of “pulmonary toileting” until you wrote it. I looked it up and I think it’d be kind of you to explain it to others on the forum here. It would probably benefit others.
Thank you for the info.
God bless.

Is it another inhaler ?

Ktf! What a great find.......Ohtu=02! Very subtle! I will search to see if I can find a site that will explain the different methods of pulmonary toileting. Being a 45 year veteran nurse helps a lot too! The congestion is the worse ever that is why some of the methods in conjunction with inhalers and nebulizers help and coughing continually is exhausting. The Ohtuvayre, jfsherley, is delivered via jet nebulizer twice a day. It is specifically intended to reduce secretions in a different manner (system) than Dupixent . The studies showed favorable results and was approved in June of July by the FDA. Marketing and availability through specialty pharmacies since September.

Verona Pharmacy has just placed on the market a new treatment option for patients with COPD. The name of the drug is Ohtuvayre - pronounced O 2 vayre. It focuses on PDE 3 & 4 to help reduce secretions with patients with not only emphysema but with a over-lying bronchitis as well. It is administered via jet nebulizer twice a day.
Just wondered if anyone has started using it and whether they found it to be helpful.

No but I would love like to hear more about it?

I believe it is nebulized theophilline, an older medicine that was taken orally long ago but is not prescribed much these days. As an oral medicine one has to check blood levels to be sure one didn’t have too much of it and had the right amount for it to be effective. The clinical trials suggested it may be able to reduce frequency & severity of exacerbations. Theophilline taken orally was effective for some patients as well. My docs are going to have me try Dupixent. They may have me try this one in the future.

Ohtuvayre drug class is : phosphodiesterase inhibitor, specifically 3 & 4. So not exactly in the category of theophilline. Personally, having started on Ohtuvayre as an add-on .......the first week I remain unimpressed. I am also on Dupixent, however, it seems to have lost its oomph after 7 months. Perhaps I developed antibodies to it, no one can give me an answer. I think its wise to start Dupixent and am hoping that it does you a world of good and relief! Let us know!
