COVID vaccines and neuropathy
I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

I am a healthy active 73 year old woman who got both the flu and Moderna Vaccines Sept 7 because my doctor encouraged me to…..my fifth booster….each year since 2019 these shots did not prevent me from bad cases of flu each year….this year I am suffering from very odd neurological distress….persistent headaches which I’ve never had before….pins and needles in my feet don’t go away and get worse
at night dizziness, nerve twitching in my eye, bizarre dreams during deep sleep wake me at 1 am each night…active brain makes it difficult to get back to sleep….these vax are NOT safe or effective….I have been suffering with persistent neuropathy and headaches over two months now…. How do we get this message out to the world so the public is better informed? And why is there such a push from doctors who must be aware of frightening long term debilitating neurological disorders to ignore these dangers and instead encourage patients to take these vaccines?

I think I had a near-catastrophic reaction to the COVID vaccine and/or infection. I ended up in the hospital for 12 days after an autoimmune attack on my spinal cord. Not to scare you, but just to alert you, I would keep a close eye on your neuro symptoms. Certainly report them to your doctor and take yourself to the hospital if they significantly progress. After my first COVID vaccines, I developed numbness in my feet. After the fourth, the numbness spread very quickly to half my body, resulting in the hospitalization. The symptoms have not resolved.
Vaccine and/or viral triggers of (likely immune-mediated) neurological symptoms are real. and they should be at the forefront of the minds of doctors, especially neurologists and primary care docs.
I have not received the latest Covid vaccine, and I wear a mask everywhere. Note: I am not an anti-vaxxer. I believe in science and vaccines, although they may not be for everyone.

3 ReactionsI'm so sorry this has happened to you. Covid 19 is radically different from viruses in the past with its spike protein which means any vaccine would be as well. As to telling the world, it already knows. These vaccines have been thoroughly tested and retested and hundreds of millions of people have been vaccinated. Sadly, there isn't a single vaccine or drug or medical procedure that is without risk, that some people will react badly to. I have gotten all of the covid shots and boosters and updated variations to date. So have my family and friends, etc etc. None of us have had bad reactions beyond the norm. I have chemo induced neuropathy which did not worsen after any of those shots. I got covid once after waiting too long between boosters, and it was less than a mild cold. I'm sorry this didn't work for you, but it has been a godsend to millions.
