THR, Anterior Approach - 3 week mark

@leigh60 Hello! I see that you just joined Mayo Connect, let me welcome you to our supportive, caring community. Congratulations on your right hip replacement and for being able to walk unaided. I see that you are concerned as to how long the pain will last. Have you talked with your doctor about this yet? Leigh, I can imagine that you're concerned about having surgery on the other hip in only 23 days from now since you are still experiencing pain in the first hip. Are you working with the physical therapist?

I have seen my Ortho surgeon at 2 weeks, and yes, I am in PT 1x per week. I continue to do the exercises my PT has given me, as well as treadmill and recumbent bike.

It sounds to me like you are doing really well. Based on my own experience (I've had both hips replaced, one 6 years ago, the other 6 weeks ago), the pain should be pretty much gone over the next few weeks. I have just a little bit of stiffness in the muscles around the new hip. Good luck!

What is the PT's read on your progress vs. pain level?

Thank you. I just don't know what to expect and I'm beginning to get concerned that I'm having surgery on the left hip too soon, although it is also bone-on bone. I guess I need to see how week 4 recovery goes. Also, I'm not the most patient person either ....

I would assume that your surgeon wouldn't schedule the second operation if he/she didn't think you were ready. But I understand what you mean about patience! I find it funny that they call us "patients" when most of us are anything but!

I have always had hip pain and burning. I am ready to ditch the gabapentin as it is messing up my head and doing little for the pain. Seeing the GP on Tuesday. Will ask for a referral. I like tramacet but I may have trouble getting more and getting addicted. I heard that Celebrex is worth trying.
Anyone have suggestions ?

I took Gabapetin for a few yearsvand it just started messing more with my head so I've switched to Lyrica. Dr had to make special request to get it that i have tried Gabapetin and side affects not as bad and also started in Cymbalta
