Posted by leigh60 @leigh60, Oct 1, 2016

60 yo, female
Total right hip replacement, anterior, 3 wks ago. Able to walk unaided, but limping and joint pain when walk. Muscle pain & burning in thigh and side of hip.
Question: How long b4 joint pain when walking and muscle pain subsides? I am due to have same surgery on Left hip in 23 days. Thank you.

Thank you do much! Have been talking to Mayo in Rochester to see if I qualify for a trial
Otherwise msy have to pay out of pocket but if it helps pain will be worth it
Also have appt at Pain Department Nov 3

I have always had hip pain and burning. I am ready to ditch the gabapentin as it is messing up my head and doing little for the pain. Seeing the GP on Tuesday. Will ask for a referral. I like tramacet but I may have trouble getting more and getting addicted. I heard that Celebrex is worth trying.
Anyone have suggestions ?

I have been taking gabapentn for nerve damage in my right leg after back surgery last November. It is helping. However now I have a fractured bone in my pelvis from osteoporosis. Could the gabapentin weakened my bones more?

Is there a “Pain Clinic” in your area or a Neurologist who treats pain? A certified Pain Dr. will help you transition from medications slowly…..and still have pain relief .

Will a pain clinic prescribe medical marijuana. I would like to try it instead of gabapentin. Nearest clinic from me is 500 miles.

@leigh60 I’ve been thinking about you. Has your pain level improved since earlier this month? Have you made a decision yet regarding the second surgery? Please feel free to keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Best wishes!

Yes. Pain level has greatly improved at Week 5, post surgery TRHR. Feeling much better and mobility almost normal. Walked 2.68 miles at one time yesterday. I continue with recumbent bike and floor exercises.
I will have THR on Left hip surgery next Monday.

Re: POSSIBLE HIP JOINT INFECTION
Had second (left) total hip replacement anterior surgery 10/24/16. Currently at 11 week mark. Unfortunately, I continue to have more joint pain now than I had pre-surgery.
Ortho doctor is suspicious of a deep joint infection (there is no sign of infection from outside, as all healed nicely and no swelling). I have had two blood tests for sedimentation rate and protein. Both were elevated, which is an indication of infection. Next was a visit with musculoskeletal radiologist for hip joint aspiration of joint fluids. I am awaiting results.

Question : Has anyone experienced this ?

3 months

Hi @outspoken – Welcome to Connect. Not sure I'm following but I think you are saying you had a THR 3 months ago. Is that correct? How is it going? Wishing you the best!
