Asthma bronchiectasis & adrenal insufficiency

Posted by molly777 @molly777, Oct 23 5:29am

I had Covid ,& flu vaccines both on the same day recently,I have now got flu symptoms, runny nose, cough, slightly breathless & coughing up green phlegm, due to adrenal insufficiency I was put on hydrocortisone tablets, ( I was previously on prednisolone) I was advised that on sick days I had to double up on my hydrocortisone dose, I have been doing this for the past 7 days& also I have as I always had prescribed a 14 day course of doxycycline antibiotics, I have 7 days left of my course & I was wondering if I could changeover to 8 prednisolone tablets for 5 days as opposed to continuing with hydrochloric as I am not feeling any better on this steroid, I was always prescribed 40 ( 8 to be taken for 5 days )prednisolone + 14 doxycycline for my rescue pack in event of a flair up.. All replies greatly received..Thanking you, Molly 777..x

@molly777 We are not medical professionals here on Mayo Connect, but rather a support group of "fellow travelers" on our various health journeys, so this is not a question for the group.
Have you contacted your doctors about making the change?
Did you get a clear explanation as to why hydrocortisone was prescribed this time instead of prednisolone?

Hi @molly777, I add my welcome. To help you connect with other members with bronchiectasis, I also added your question to the MAC & Bronchiectasis Support Group.

I agree with @sueinmn that any questions about changing medication dosages are best answer by your lung specialist. You might also wish to contact your pharmacist with your questions.

Many thanks Colleen for your most welcome, helpful & kind reply...I have decided that I will not be able to join Mayo Clinic just now due to unforseen family circumstances, but however I will certainly be in touch at a later date..Thanks again Colleen for your care & support shown to me at this time, it is indeed much appreciated.. I hope you are able to get in touch with your doctors soon to get help and start feeling better. Even though we can’t help with this very specific medical question, I hope you’ll stay in the group. I’ve leaned a lot about nebulizers, airway clearance techniques and living with bronchiectasis from other members. Take care!
