How do you deal with dry eyes?

I have dry eyes due to sjogren's syndrome. Does anyone else deal with dry eyes?

paul1940, Hey there! The doctor puts some numbing drops in your eyes. He then inserts the collagen plugs (these are the temporary plugs) one at a time into each tear duct. It takes about 5 minutes. It is not painful at all. If you tolerate the collagen plugs well after they dissolve (about 3-6 months) you then can get the permanent silicone punctum plugs.

I did not do as well with the silicone plugs....they fell out of both of my eyes in about 6 weeks. I went back and had another set of the collagen plugs in and I still have those in.

My eyes are so much more moist. I do still use Restasis and Systane Complete PF. I do not have to use the Systane Complete PF several times a day like before I got the punctum plugs inserted. I was even using ointment in my eyes at night before getting the punctum plugs.

This has been wonderful for me. After cataract surgery last year, my eyes got unbearably drier and the punctum plugs have been such a blessing.

Blessings to you....

I have had dry eye for years after 3 Lasik procedures. The most effective relief that I have found is serum tears…. Go to opthsmologist office, they draw blood, crntrifuge and separate serum, put into eye dropper vials. You keep one refrigerated, freeze and thaw as you need for about 3 months. Cash pay, but cheaper than copay for expensive drops.

Hi Nancy, I also have try eyes, glaucoma and macular degen. I use Restasis and also heat pads on my eyes. It releases the oil from the Mibomian (sp?) oil glands. Also if you massage under your eyes where the glands are it releases the oil - instant relief. You can order the pads on line from Oasis or ask your eye doc. It only takes 10 minutes and is calming also.

I have low tension glaucoma and was prescribed Lantanaprost .005 which made my eyes burn and sting. It was terrible pain . Then the ophthalmologist prescribed Timolol despite my being on Metropolol which dropped my low blood pressue in half and l was taken to the ER. I am off both Lantanaprost and Timolol . My eyes continue to burn and sting so the doctor put me on Prednisolone 4 drops a day. That increased my IOP by 50% so now I'm supposed to take the steroid 3 times a day for a week and then drop it to 2 drops per day.

Since starting the Prednisolone I have pain in my nose and pain beneath my eyes which l suppose is in my sinuses. I'm to use warm compresses 2/day and OTC eyedrops as often as l need them.

Can someone please offer advice on what l truly should be doing? I'm terribly concerned and don't want to be led into blindness by eyedrops. I think l have an allergy to the preservatives in the drops.

Dry eyes and burning, stinging eyes never existed in my world until l started glaucoma drops. I also have blepharitis and any sort of facial or eye makeup is out of the question.

On top of this l have burning mouth syndrome and trigeminal nerve pain from a root canal gone hideously wrong. Please help.

I have cataracts and Sjogrens (and green eyes). I have suffered dry eyes more years than I can count. Thought I’d tried them all, OTC and prescribed. I now see a cornea specialist because of an aneurysm on my right cornea. He turned me onto the best drops I’ve ever used. They are not in drug stores but Amazon carries them. The brand name is Optase. I can’t believe the difference they’ve made in my life!! I highly recommend trying them. The only thing that could be improved is the delivery method squeezing a drop out of the bottle but worth it!!!!
