Please share any details. Comfy chairs? I read there is a cafe. Are ubers safe to take from there at night back to a hotel? Thx.

Take a stroll over to Gonda and see the Dale Chihuly glass. View it from both the Lobby and Subway level. Never disappoints.

yes! We saw that again! St Peterburg museum in Fl is great, too. I've seen his pieces in the botanical garden in Atlanta Georgia, too. Great ideas to tour around Mayo with a group.

See the historic doors, I believe are on the architecturally significant Plummer Building, they are beautiful. Weather permitting, stretching your legs in the several gardens is soothing during this highly anxious time. The garden by the Gonda Building has statues and plaques noting the Mayo Clinic history. Between tests and interviews, strolling around helped take my obsessive mind off of upcoming surgery. Husband found it better than "just sitting there" while I was in surgery.

I will go look at the doors next visit. Thanks!

I see you've received some excellent advice about comfy waiting areas. If you can take your mind off your loved one for a bit, don't miss all the art that Mayo has. You'll see examples of it everywhere you go. I think they have a pamphlet describing their collection. And if you have time check out all the tours of the campus they offer.

Here is my Mayo art appreciation lesson. My first visit to ENT on the 12th floor Gonda came after a tongue cancer diagnosis. I was so scared. I was told to wait at the far end by the "C" door. As I approached that area I noticed the large stained glass mosaics on the walls of birch trees, sky, clouds, etc. I immediately started to cry. My husband inquired and I said look at the wall. He cried, too. You see, I am a stained glass mosaic artist! My subject matter is birds, wildflowers, trees, etc around my Wisconsin home. It was as if they chose that art just for me. I always make it a point to notice the art now. So does my husband.

That's a powerful story. I hope everything went well with your cancer.

The one year anniversary of my surgery was 4 days ago. I'm cancer free and still learning to manage lymphedema and fibrosis in my neck and tongue. But I'm all healed and doing great. Life is different.... But still good! Thanks for asking.

thank you. All good suggestions!

I think I'm going to drop my husband off at the Methodist entrance on the corner of Central & 3rd Ave SW. Will either use the valet or the Graham parking ramp. After that, we may use the shuttle back-and-forth

@danandnan2024, how are you and your husband doing? Have you been to Mayo yet?

There is a patient library somewhere on subway level. There is an awesome quiet computer room and the reading area has loungers! Nothing better than getting the feet elevated. Lastly, each surgery floor seems to have a family waiting room with coffee, tea, and a screen which shows updates on the surgery (when it starts, when in recovery, etc)

The patient library is currently under construction. It is called the patient education center. It should reopen in a couple of weeks. Mid November. In the Siebens building subway.
