Sorry to hear Reaptha didn’t work for you. It took me 3 months to stop having mild side effects. Not fun, but it was my only solution for high cholesterol. I had issues with every statin and even Zetia.
I have Celiac Disease, so no gluten…but I also do not tolerate dairy, shellfish or eggs. So basically I modify the Mediterranean Diet to all my food issues. Lots of veggies, poultry and fish. I also keep carbs to a minimum.
I take Repatha and Nexletol. Nexletol is bempedoic acid…a precursor to where statin drugs impact the liver. Nexletol has been great - no side effects at all but it doesn’t lower LDL as much as statin. My insurance hates the combo…very expensive.
The Horizon trial is for people with high Lipoprotein(a) and heart or vascular disease. I had a heart attack 5 years ago, so when the docs found my Lp(a) was over 300 nmol, I was eligible for the trial.
Some researchers found that Repatha sometimes doesn’t work well for women. Works great for my mother so not sure why not for me. They will figure it out one day. My PTH and thyroid are fine…probably something else in the liver. We forget cholesterol is a liver disease that affects the heart.
So good to connect with all of you. Heart disease really “sucks”. I did everything they tell you to avoid it…sometimes those genes win.
Life is good. 😊
It seems you have tried everything but at least something is working. Stay healthy and safe. Thanks
The best
Parathyroids have a major impact on calcium in your system. If you go on the mayo clinic website and do a search, it will explain the interaction of the parathyroids and calcium and cholesterol.
Great. I will. Thanks
What was your Lp(a)?
Did that come down too?
Lp(a) was 312…on Repatha it went down to 267. I have been on the Horizon trial for Pelacarsen for 2 1/2 years…I have not had my Lp(a) measured since then. Pelacarsen has been shown to decrease Lp(a) by 80%. It is an once a month injection.
Life is good…be good to yourself. 🥰
That sounds great. Stay safe and healthy.
