Bruising unexplained

Posted by januaryjane @januaryjane, Jul 2, 2023

Hi, 37 female, recently broke out into bruises under my upper arms. They were swollen and hurt, that was less than a week ago, they're healing now. A few years ago I saw a blood specialist and found nothing abnormal. I've had bruising before but not like this. I'm wondering if it's something vascular. Any thoughts would definitely be appreciated.

That is helpful to know @floann9, that bruising is a known side effect of Brukinsa (zanubrutinib) and that for you it subsided after the first month. Is the treatment working well for you?

Yes, The treatment is working well. My blood work is steadily improving. Thanks. Although the unexplained bruising has subsided, I notice that I do bruise more easily now (if I bump into something). At least the bruising is not unaccounted for as before. During the first month, I was seeing bruises that seemed to just materialize on my legs, thighs and arms.

Thanks for commenting. I used to take a lot of vitamin C, but have stopped because vitamin C can help the body absorb iron. One of the issues with my condition is that even though I am slightly anemic, I have an overload of iron in my body. (I know, go figure)
My dr. suggested that I eliminate vitamin c and also multivitamins in order to avoid any more iron overload. I have been doubling down on fruits, vegetables, and a primarily plant-based diet. So far, so good.
