Hi, I am sorry that you are dealing with dry mouth as that is totally no fun at all. I've had the same issue for years and it is due to my meds. The best things I've discovered to counter it is any acidic juice or drink, like lemonade, orange juice or something similar. There are also Mint Lifesavers that tend to work fairly well. If you find anything that works great for yourself, will you please share it with me also? Thank you and have a beautiful day.
Hi. Sometime ago I started having issues with dry mouth. I’d change my toothbrush and toothpaste and it didn’t work.
Then I try Biotene for dry mouth and its works fairly good. Hope you try it and reply. Thanks
Hi, thanks for answering. I tried Biotene when it was first put on the market and it made my mouth taste like cotton. So, that one doesn't work for me. The orange juice worked until I began wearing a sensor and no citrus is allowed with them, so that is out also. It gets to be a nuisance, doesn't it? 🙂 Have a great day and let me know what you discover. Thanks.
@happilyalive Have you tried the Biotene gel? I use it sometimes and find it helpful. Any kind of sugar free lozenges might also be worth a try. Best of luck
Hi, I've never heard of Biotene gel but will look it up. How does it work? You are right that any sugar free lozenges may be worth a try. I'll head to the drug store Tuesday to see what I can locate. Thanks for the ideas and advice. I sincerely greatly appreciate it. --Blessings to you.
I have dry mouth from taking antihistamines. My capped teeth are now decaded and need to be replaced because of this dry mouth. I can not stop my asthma antihistamine meds. Has anyone had their teeth re-capped due to antihistamines and does dry mouth decay re-occur with the new caps?
I was bothered by dry mouth, particularly at night and mention this to my dentist who recommended OraCoat Xylimelts Dry Mouth. These are stick on melts for moisturizing that adhere to your gums. I have been using these about 2 years now and they are fantastic. I have also recommended these two or three people I know who have complained of the same problems and every one of them have gotten tremendous results. You can order them online, which I do, or possibly find them in a drug store. I have never bought them in a drugstore though. They last throughout the night and greatly reduce morning dry mouth. The ingredients are xylitol, Acacia gum, cellulose gum, magnesium stearate, sodium bicarbonate and calcium carbonate. You hold them in place for about 10 seconds on either the maxilla or mandible and they adhere and stay in place. They can be used with Dentures braces mouth guards or CPAP machines. I highly recommend.
Thanks for posting the info about olive oil. I have horrible dry mouth and have not been able to find anything helpful for it. Most seem to love Biotene, but xylitol (According to the National Institute of Health in June of this year) has negative cardiovascular implications. Biotene products never do much for me so I use them to excess. That makes the cardiovascular thing a no no for me and my old people ailments.☹️Happy to hear about olive oil! Can you tell me how to use it?
I wake up in the morning with a very dry mouth. Not taking any meds and as soon as I have a sip of water, no more dry mouth all day. Wonder what that's all about....
ksdm, I use Xylitol gum and at times Biotene mouthwash for dry mouth. They both help greatly.
If your lips are dry and cracked on the sides, you may have some thrush in your mouth due to yeast overload. Ask your primary to examine your meds and take a look at the inside of your mouth or maybe your dentist.
You might want to take a look at the side effects of your meds and see if 1 or more causes dry mouth. Bless you.
